Hey everyone this is my first post on here and am very excited about joining the ranks. I have never towed anything other then some dump trailers. This is my first trailer and it's a 5er. A brand new 2013 Heartland Prowler 31 TBS. You can't see it in the pictures but it has 3 slides and an outdoor kitchen. Overall length is 36' 10". GVWR is 13000. I am taking it on it's first trip this week. Thanks for all the help so far.

One of the first things we did was make a check off list for the hooking up process. We once left a RV Park with our antenna up. Didn't get far before the park called my wifes' cell phone and asked if we always traveled with our antenna up. OOPs! Nice observant RV park employee. So from then on it is go through our check off list before departing.

Congrats on the new rig. Best of luck...you're gonna' fall in love quick. ๐Ÿ™‚ As your first fiver, make sure you do a double pull test -- once after you hook up and with the landing gear just barely off the ground to ensure you are hooked up correctly. Do a search and you'll hear stories of people dropping their rigs on their trucks because they were high-hitched or some other problem with hooking up. If you do a pull test with the legs just barely off the ground and you separate, the rig will only fall that very short distance and not onto your bed rails/tailgate. I also do a second pull test just prior to leaving to ensure the brakes are working correctly. But, YMMV.

Those rails look to be standard Reese type rails. Side bolts are connected to the frame brackets which attach to the frame and the center ones are connected to a spacer under the bed so the bed doesn't warp when tightened down or walked on. Mine is the same way. They don't hold much except the bed up close to the rails.

Very nice rig. I just have one question. Was the hitch put in by a professional installer?? The heads of the bolts look funny to me and I don't think I ever saw a connector in the middle of the rails. I hope that the rails are connected to the frame of the truck. Just want you to be safe.
Good luck and happy camping.
