Fixin to pull the trigger...moving from TT to 5th Wheel

All I have to do is say "deal" and we will have our first 5th wheel. We have been rving for 8 years and I have been thru the "gadget buying" phase. What I need to know is what do I really need for the 5th wheel? I have a 30amp plug installed on my house so here is what I am thinking:

- 50 to 30 amp plug
- Step covers
- 2 vent covers
- 5th wheel cover? (I already have tire covers)
- tv bracket & lcd tv for bedroom

Of course, I am going to ask the dealer to include all these (or some of them)

Yes, I have a 5th wheel hitch included and installed with the pruchase.

Thanks.

Congrats!!!

Fivers are great!

Try to find out what kind of fifth wheel hitch they are including. All are good and secure... some are better than others.

If its a Reese hitch try to get them to upgrade you to the Reese R16 hitch. Thats a fine fine hitch.

Likely they will try to give you a ProSeries 15k... This is considered entry level. Not throwing down on it...its a secure hitch that gets the job done... It uses a slide bar jaw design and while secure it can be noisy...

It would be worth the extra couple of hundred to get a better hitch.

The gold standard around here seems to be the B&W fifth wheel hitches. They make three basic models.. The Patriot 16k that fits into standard fifth wheel rails. This is a GREAT hitch and can be found for around $400.00 on the internet. There are companion models that fit either the OEM fifth wheel prep kit on the newer trucks or the regular companion fifth wheel hitch that works with the B&W turn over ball.

My Daddy has a Curt 20k slider and he has never had a moments problem with it.

Lots and lots of options.

Congrats and Good luck

Thanks!

Jeremiah

Husky 16k was mentioned.

Don't forget it's called "stepping up" or "upgrading" to a 5er!

Before signing tell them there is just one more thing. A set of quality US Made tires!

a lesson on how to back them up. Yes they are relatively easy, but "oh so very much" different. If you start to twist it in when you would the TT, you will hit the building everytime. Wait a few feet, then twist her in.

GPS with optional truck routing program. My new Garmin nuvi 2757LM does not have that feature but I wanted a 7 inch screen. I'm hoping I don't need it. I had it on an older Garmin 7200 that is no longer made.
