Front Living Rooms

We are looking the Keystone Montana Front Living Room model 3711FL. It has a DRY pin weight of 2790 lbs at 13200 and CC of 3200lbs. I know for pass scale weights I add under 1500 lbs of cargo. I have F350 diesel SRW with payload of 3744.

If they pin weight percentage stays at or under 22 percent would give me a pin weight of 3234 which still gives me some margin. My question is that seems like a front living room would be lighter pin since there isn't much added weight in to the living room and also not much storage? Also, the basement in the front is the smallest I have seen on any 5er being less 30" wide so not much cargo there.

Does anyone has any input? Upgrading the truck isn't a options since a Crew Cab won't fit in my garage.

Remember those brochure weights are for a Bare Bones empty RV. Our last 2 have had shipping weights 1 to 2 thousand over brochure weights before we put in a single paper plate. So the real world pin could go quite a few hundred above what's on paper.

I just had the opposite experience with a Keystone 5th wheel. The brochure weight was 9250 and my yellow sticker came in at 9040. I lay awake at night wondering what they left off 🙂

Loaded for a weekend trip. The front living room and front storage was loaded with every thing in it that we would take camping. The bedroom and the food pantry including the fridge are aft of the front axles so those shouldn't increase pin weights by adding weight.

I notice all your numbers end in even 100s. Is that because the scale rounded the weights to the nearest 100, and if so, is that typical of all truck scales?

I used portable truck scales which are not digital.

I'm pretty certain that CAT Scales round to nearest 20#. At least they did before I retired from trucking in 2010.

They were not CAT scales but the ones used when the weigh cop would weigh you on the side of the road.

Here are some real numbers from my '16 Montana 3710FL. I weighted it out today.

Trailer axles - 11,000lbs
Truck rear axle loaded - 6,900lbs
Truck axle unloaded but with pin box - 3,300lbs
Total pin weight - 3,600lbs
Trailer weight - 14,600lbs

In my opinion, the trailer is not loaded for a trip. No food in cabinets or fridge. This is how my trailer sits, then we throw food into it for a trip, but it contains most of the other stuff we need. Tanks area also dry.

I am looking into the Keystone 3711 Fl. Can anyone that has one or has had one tell me the exact length (pin box to bumper) Covered stall is only 39'6" Thanks for the help

We haven't picked up ours from the dealer yet but Keystone Website says the length is 39"6'.

Note that the Keystone web site defines its lengths as center of king pin to rear most part of rear cap, which apparently does not include the ladder. By that, the length from the front edge of the pin box to the rear of the ladder will be quite a bit more.

Thanks CWSWine I should have said "enclosed stall not a covered stall. Just wanted to make sure the doors will close. Houston RV show 2-11-14-2016. Guess I'll take a 50 foot tape with me.

It's going to be close I would guess the one with the cap on back is shorter then the one with the bumper. Being that close of measurement I won't want little off and give bad information.

Would have been interesting to know the pin weight before you loaded it to see how close it might have been to the posted empty pin weight.

This is different animal I think (and hope) I could probably be ok at 3400 since my payload on my yellow tag is 3744 but not much more.

The basement is only 16.5 inches wide so not much storage. With a front living room there isn't but two small cabinets for stoarge. About 75 percent of the kitchen is aft of the forward axle including the refrig and pantry is aft of the forward axle. The bathroom and bedroom are aft of the rear axles also. What I hope is there isn't much change in pin weight with most the weight I put in will be over the axles or behind the axles.

The dealer just call and it will be ready for pickup on Thursday and I drive right pass a scale on the way home so I will let you know..
