Can I use dish-washing machine gel to clean the gray tank?

Bleach. But be careful not to mix it with commercial additives. I put bleach in the traps occasionally to keep out odors. Nothing else.

But detergent & warm water sloshing around the tank for 3 hours sure does clean things up. I can't see in the tank, but I do know the it doesn't stink. Neither does my black tank after end of season cleaning. At least until the first deposit.

Reminds me to work on uncle's gray tank. We Will work on it after we finished installing the shocks from 4Wheelonline onto the Wrangler JK project. The gray tank starts to smell bad after a couple of years. Will try Flush King.

Many of us wash the dishes with Dawn or similar - that should be sufficient to keep grease etc from building up in the Gray water tank.

I put in about 2 cups of liquid laundry detergent in each of the gray & black water tanks & fill them about 1/2 - 1/3 full for the final drive home at the end of camping season. For the galley tank, I empty the hot water tank into it to help break up the nasty kitchen grease.

I prefer the HE laundry detergent because it is very low sudsing and so drains more completely.

Why not?? I dump about half a small (Dollar Tree) bottle of Dawn in the grey tank without emptying it and then travel for one day to let it slosh around. Once a month or so. No special schedule but some dishwashing grease will accumulate on the walls and eventually will start to smell.

Not sure you will be shaking the tank enough to mix the gel and water. Why do you need to clean it?
