Wanted to wash and wax the front cap/bug catcher on our rig. Our well water is loaded with minerals, so washing things doesn’t cut it. You can’t see through a window if you spray our water on it and let it dry. So I pulled it to town and soaked it down in a car wash bay and scrubbed it mostly clean.

We needed a few groceries, so I parked on the street near our small town grocery store and went inside. When I came out, a lady came up and said, “I hope you don’t think I’m rude, but what is that on your truck? I see them on the road some time, but I don’t really know what they are.”

I told her it was a camper, and opened the door to show her the inside. I opened the curb side slide and let her inside to check it out. I swear if I’d showed her a space ship she wouldn’t have been more amazed! She couldn’t get over the idea that it had a kitchen, a bathroom, recliners and a bedroom. She walked around the outside a little, and then said “It seems bigger inside than outside.” Being a Dr. Who fan, I enjoyed that quite a bit!

She was amazed that, yes, my truck could pull it 70MPH.

I’m still smiling about it.

I have camped off and on all my life. As a kid, we had a pop-up, a converted step van and a pickup camper. As an adult, we had tents and a pop-up when the kids were small. A year and a half ago we decided to get back into camping, getting close to retirement, and we went to our dealer to look at a travel trailer. We were talking to the salesman and I told him I know what a 5th wheel trailer is, but what are they like on the inside? Well, I was blown away. I thought the front overhang would be like a pickup camper, a bed you would crawl into. I had no idea you could actually stand up in the overhang. I looked at the inside and looked at the outside and looked at the inside again. How did they do that? I was amazed. Of course, we ended up getting a fifth wheel.

I think that was my wife's impression as well. We looked at TTs for an hour or so and then I suggested we look at a 5th wheel with similar floorplan. She was hooked quickly.

We were out camping and a couple from South Korea came over to talk to us and wondered if they could look inside. They were impressed with our trailer but were really impressed that we had a Samsung television...lol

ACZL..... as I looked back at my own rig, 2500/CC/LB and 31' fiver, I wondered sometimes how in the heck I could tow it?? Wasn't worried about the truck.

And yet, have you ever yourself just stood back and looked at the truck and RV hooked up? You see this massive object attached to the truck and wonder how the heck the truck can tow it.

As we were stopped at a roadside rest stop for lunch a family with two young son's walk by our opened door. As they pass the wife say's "WOW, it's a house in there". The husband asked if they could look inside so we invited them in. They were amazed. They had no idea what was inside the white boxes they see on the road all day.

I stopped at the trading post store in monument valley with my previous 40' 5th wheel. There was a bus load of tourists from England. One of them asked about it so I showed him the inside. Pretty soon, I had 3 of my slides out and a bus load of Brits inside taking a tour. Luckily, the bus driver rounded them all up.

Great story!

Our house is on a well also. We had a Kinetico Water system installed in the house. I did the plumbing to make it whole house, including an outside faucet that is now filtered and water softened. They installed the tanks and water softener part. I also left a second outside faucet right beside it that is direct from the well. When washing the car, truck or trailer, I now use the filtered water. It's nice to use it to fill the water tank in the trailer too. I use the non-filtered water for watering grass, and stuff like that. The difference in the two waters is like day and night on painted, finished surfaces! (think about a system like that. It cost some $$$ but well worth it in the end).
