Hello all. Have never been to the Hershey PA show but have heard great things about it so we are planing to attend next weekend. We are looking at toy haulers and want to see as many floor plans in person as we can in one day. any suggestions from anyone who has been there to help us be efficient looking at toy haulers? Thanks in advance!

I have been researching Toy Haulers for the last few months. I have a big enough truck that I can pull the bigger Toy Haulers. I was looking at the popular brands such as Cyclone, XLR, Raptor, Fuzion, Voltage, etc. I knew from talking to some truck drivers that I personally didn't want triple axles. That is just my opinion. Many nice triple axle Toy Haulers out there but I didn't want to deal with some of the issues as tire scrubbing and other issues.

At the Hershey show I went in every one of these units with my wife. We had worked out a preliminary deal for the new Fuzion Chrome but still wanted to look at the rest of the Toy Haulers My wife was turned off by most because of the small double kitchen sinks as well as other things. We had heard about the Grand Design Momentum that was debuting at the Hershey show so I did my research before the show. I was pleasantly surprised by the Momentum. The Momentum at the show was beautiful and I liked the features such as double 8,000 pound axles instead of 3 6,000 pound axles, 17.5 inch wheels with H rated tires, color match roof to sidewalls, painted front cap, aluminum steps, trail air pinbox, etc. We were told about another floor plan that was not there but was debuting the following week at the open house in Indiana. As soon as my wife and I saw the new floor plan we were sold. I was able to work out a phenominal deal for the new Grand Design Momentum 385th and I purchased it. I could not be happier with my decision and I have no regrets. After I worked out the deal I was asked to speak with the President and CEO of Grand Design Don Clarke on the phone. He was such a pleasure to speak with.

Following the show I dug deeper into researching Grand Design. I found that the other products that Grand Design had manufactured like the Solitude and Reflection were being highly raved about on forums. I also found that the three men that started Grand Design, Don Clark and the Fenech brothers, were the same three that started Keystone which produced the Fuzion and Raptor and also the Alpine I currently own. I am now sold on Grand Design and the Momentum. I believe when making a purchase this important to look at all the facts such as quality of construction, will the company stand behind there products and last the quality of the dealership you will be purchasing from. Thats why I feel very comfortable that I went with the Momentum and purchesed it from a great dealership, Tom Schaefers RV Super Store, whom I purchased my current Alpine from.

If anyone is looking for a great quality Toy Hauler make sure you look at the Grand Design Momentum before you make your final decision.

Congrats on the new camper. I assume you ordered it through Schaeffers?? They show one on their site as on order but sold. I just wanted to point out that I agree with everything you say above but for me (and many others) it comes down to the money. If it was $5K maybe even $10K more I would figure out where to come up with the difference but talking a realistic price (forget msrp) you are talking $20K more then some of the other brands. That's a new bike for the garage right there 🙂 I am all for spending what you can to get nice things with good quality. If I could afford it I'd be right there with you. I only live about 45 minutes from Schaeffers and would have one ordered but they are just a bit rich for my blood, not to mention I might cry the first time I pull my mud soaked, covered in snow UTV into the garage. Thanks for the review and good luck with it. Sounds like you are getting one of the nicest TH's available!

The one on the website is the 355TH, and was sold at the Hershey Show. All the ones that have been ordered from the Show, are still not showing.

They won't appear on the website until the VIN confirmation comes in....

Thanks kfp673. The price was no different form the Fuzion Chrome, Cyclone 4100 King or the Voltage 3950 I was looking at the show. I always like to say this in only my opinion and others have different needs or priorities. for me the Momentum was the best fit. Happy Camping!!!!

Quite honestly, most people that use toyhaulers don't sit around and eat at a dinette anyway.

That is definitely in the minority of usage...may be on your list of things you want, but not industry wide.

There are a few out there....

Agreed, and I don't either...full disclosure: I ONLY eat at a proper table when guests are over. The rest of the time it is a pop up coffee table at the couch.
What I was commenting on is why they put a card table in a $100k RV. Toy hauler or not.

I am glad we got to the bottom of that...seems we are closer to agreeing than I first thought...;-)

Yes the bed is in the slide. I ordered a king bed so I lose the tiny tables next to the bed. Thats a great idea about the folding table thanks. The poker table that comes with it is of no use to me.

Not payin' $100,000 for a high end 5th with a pair of FOLDING TABLES...what crap.
And when will the MFG figure out that the TV doesn't go on the wall 90deg to the couch...pop it up from the counter top or swing it down from above the slide already!

Yep, the poles are soooo much better...LOL

No, but a REAL kitchen table and chairs ARE!
For 100k I would expect that.

Well, if you are willing to pay $100K (which is MSRP on most of the big TH's), then I will buy you a table and chair set. Have you really looked at most toyhaulers? There are very few that use a dedicated dining area.

I guess you just proved my point...weren't we talking about things that the "industry" needs to start doing BETTER?

Not sure why you can't view the pics. Yes they are using lippert drop down Z frames I believe. I do have the 6 point level up system on the Momentum I ordered plus 3rd A/C and king bed. There is no storage in the garage. There is a 1/2 bath with dual entry from garage and main living area. I dont think you can eliminate the pull out ottoman. I didnt like the poles on the floor of the Cyclone and Fuzions I looked at. I saw the new Fuzion Chrome and they went away from the poles also. The poker table in the garage cannot realistically be used for eating. I will have to see about the main dining one. Most of the time we will be eating outside anyway.

Does the larger one have the bed in the slide? I hope next trailer will have a north/south bed and the wardrobe in the slide. All the Fuzions have that silly little table now. Mine is an early 2013 so I lucked out(personal opinion) and had the holes in the floor. Mid year 2013 eliminated the holes in the floor.

Go down to Costco and buy the 6' fold up table. Works great in the garage with the happi-jak set up. We used to eat outside all the time, but with this trailer its so much more convenient to eat at the large table in the garage. With the ramp door open and the screen pulled down its about as close to being outside as you can get. More comfortable than a picnic bench, no dirt(I get enough dirt on the dirt bike or quads), no bugs, easier clean up, and no setup/break down and zippers to contend with on those tents that go over tables. The older I get the more of a gentleman camper I become 🙂

Have to be a member there to see pictures I guess.

Are they using a Lippert frame?
Is there an option for Level up? I am spoiled and can't go backwards now
Does the bigger one have storage in the garage? The smaller one has not even one cabinet.
Can you eliminate the pull out ottoman at the end of the bed and get the traditional storage? I would get much more use out of having under bed storage.

I have to agree that the little table with the curved feet is ridiculous. We had one that came with our Fuzion and after 5 seconds of it being set up it found its way into the home attic. Bought a bigger, sturdier fold out table plus we still have the option in the living area of the table with the 3 aluminum poles which works great in certain camping situations. Otherwise it stays stored under the front bed.

I posted some pictures on the Grand Design owners forum of the Momentum 385th that my dealer sent me from the open house in Indiana http://reflectionowners.com/ under the Momentum tag. I am also waiting to see the pictures of the 385th. I ordered based on a floor plan diagram and spec sheet. The issues with triple axles can be found all over rv.net. Don't want to bad mouth it. You can research it and decide on your own. For me, I didn;t want anything to do with 3 axles after reading and talking to RV dealers.

Where can I find information on this new floor plan. Their website only shows one.

Also, can you expand on issues with triple axle trailers. I understand the cost of an additional set of tires but I have zero experience with them and we are negotiating on a trailer that is a triple axle.
