so, checked in the camper today and the plastic pot we have was completely melted and there's a whole bunch of burnt plastic inside. Looks like there was a small fire. our 5th wheel is parked in the driveway and plugged into the 110 outlet via a heavy duty extension cord. everything else in the camper appears to be ok except that the battery didn't have a charge. i removed the battery and have that on a trickle charger in the garage to see if it will survive another season.

i was away for over a month during december and i saw that the power had gone out. is that related? power surge? should i not have the camper plugged in all of the time? i'm also looking for suggestions on a replacement microwave as i don't trust that this one will work for us any longer.

thanks all for the information, i'll be replacing the microwave shortly and get one of the powerline conditioners as well. might just have to take it to camping world to have them check everything else out as well.

They aren't actually bad microwaves. You can find them at https://burnstines.com/collections/microwave-and-convection-ovens plus manuals at http://collinssupport.com/manuals.php

They only fault I have with them is that when the food is done, it says "GOOD" in the display. Sometimes it's true, but it never says anything else. Sometimes, it just flat out lies. I'm sorry, Boston Market is never "GOOD", it's "JUST OK" or "MEDIOCRE" at best. "MEH" would be an acceptable option that would fit in the display. "BAD" would work too when applicable.

A good EMS like Progressive Industries would probably have stopped this damage. It is an essential piece of equipment for us. Most microwaves are considered to be disposable and you may find a replacement at your local big box store that will fit in the existing space.

I guess it could be related to main power to the house cycling off and on, but we always have our rig plugged into shore power stored here in our side yard with many power outages coming and going, never an issue with our RV convection microwave or any electrical appliance within our rig.

Neighbors across the street and on both sides of us have their rigs plugged in as well and never heard about an electrical issue from them (over the dozen years we lived here} due to just being plugged in or from power outages that frequent our area.

Obviously, something is not right, the problem could be related to a failure within your rig's electrical system or just a faulty microwave that wherever it was plugged in, was inevitably bound to fail at some point. Chuck the microwave for a new model and have your rig's electrical system professionally evaluated, dead battery indicates the problem could be twofold. Good luck and report back when you discover the culprit.

Forgot to add... What brand is the Microwave? Is it just a microwave, or a combination oven? I just replaced the "turntable" motor on ours. there should be a MFG. lable on the inside copy all the info and do a google search.

I would never keep the trailer plugged in, even if its in your driveway for any period of time. If you are worried about keeping the battery charged, think about a solar powered trickle charger they are only about $20.00. I don't think the Microwave is salvageable either. .... Good Luck and Happy Camping !!
