I'm looking for a RV transporter for heavy 5th wheel

Hi all,

We have put a deposit on a 5th wheel trailer but I don't think my current truck is capable of moving the trailer. I am going to start looking into upgrading trucks (probably a HDT) but can't get that done fast enough.

I live in northern Illinois and the trailer is located in Fort Worth TX....so I'm hoping to find someone in the path to help get the trailer moved north. The trailer is 45' long triple axle and approx. 20k pounds.

I have considered using my 1999 F350 which pulled our previous 40'er Cardinal but it was only approx. 13k pounds.

Any contact info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Phil

They didn't weigh Tetons individually. Chris at Stalkups in Casper picked one up at the factory and had it weighed. Weighed 1000# more than the sticker stated. He called Teton and they said sure, we'll send a new sticker, what do you want on it?
Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback and help!

After getting a picture of the trailer weight info sticker texted to me I have decided to just look for someone to transport the trailer for me. My truck is just not going to be enough truck for me to feel comfortable using.

GVWR .................... 24,000
UVW .................... 20,185
minus fresh water .......... 680
minus propane .............. 80
----
CCC ...................... 3,055

So if I understand the sticker correctly I would be towing a trailer that is at least 19,505 with no water right?

And probably a pin weight of approx. 4,800 correct?

I will check into some of the transport companies in Elkhart, post on craigslist in both my area and Texas, put an add on u-ship, etc.

And in the meantime give my Ford a bath and put it up for sale ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks again,
Phil

I think your truck would pull that trailer, albeit a bit slow climbing passes. The scary part would be descending them if you don't have an exhaust brake. After having one on my current truck I will never tow without one again.

Yeah, google RV hauler Elkhart, that would be a good starting point.
And/Or put an ad in Craiglist - South Bend.
Currently RV-less but not done yet.

Try asking the dealer. It was delivered there, maybe the same company can do it. Many RVs are built not far from you so maybe a delivery truck dead heading back could take the load.
Best answer yet. I serviced 2 trucks delivering campers all over the country and there are a lot of them who would love a back load to Indiana just to cover fuel expenses. Dead heading back pays nothing.

My neighbor does jobs through U-Ship. He has an International MDT set up for gooseneck and 5th wheel. Usually these guys watch what is let out for bid and try to find a match/back load. Throw it out there and see what kind of rate you can get, you offer, they counter.

Thanks!...I will post a listing and see what happens.

The trailer is used and was a trade in so private owner brought it in. I have asked the salesman for names of carriers and he is working on getting me a list.

I am going to do some calling myself and probably post on Craigslist.

And great point, there are alot of deliveries coming out of my area so maybe someone wants to bring one back for me ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks

This might be the cheapest option. Same driver might be on u-ship.

Thanks JF

It is a 4x4 ....the clutch and trans have been replaced and upgraded....no chip installed, all stock engine. But I am still nervous and want to be safe and not destroy my truck...I want to be able to sell it later ๐Ÿ™‚
