Just purchased a new 2015 Chevy 3500 LTZ diesel dually. Now I am on my next adventure; my 5th wheel. I have learned a lot from this forum and would like to ask a few more questions. First, the hitch I am leaning towards is the Curt 20K hitch (max I plan to tow is 18K). I have read good things about this hitch.....comments?
The 5th wheel I am leaning towards is the 2013 - 2014 Heartland Landmark. I prefer the Savanah floor plan, but find the San Antonio a close second. Any comments on the heartland Landmarks? I look forward to any and all your comments.
Thanks in advance for your help.

A very rude comment and no reason for it.

You will enjoy the new truck. The ride is quieter than any vehicle, truck or car, that I have ever owned. You will have plenty of power and capacity for the fifth wheels you are considering. I am not a buy something because I did type but we have really enjoyed our Excel and the only thing we have needed done was a slide adjustment.

I would second the Trailer Saver BD3. We had a B&W Companion in the last truck and they are excellent but the air bag ride of the BD3 is very nice and well worth the extra bucks, in my opinion. I installed a standard rail system from Curt in the new truck. It is a custom fit and was a bit a pain to install but it is very robust. We are making our first long trip with the new truck in a few weeks and I am really looking forward to it.

Spend the money for the Trailer Saver Hitch. BD3 or TS3 BD3 has shocks and air bags and comes apart for removing. I have the TS3 and use a cherrypicker to remove it. It is heavy but what a ride. With the Holland Brinkly hitch it can't be beat. Check it out at least. I think it is the best hitch out there but it is Expensive. Remember the old saying You get what you pay for. When I bought my camper the dealer thru in the hitch. He might have well have thrown it away. POS. took one trip to figure that out.

You'll love your new truck-Congrats! We just bought a Curt Q20 for our Big Country and Love it. It is a smoother ride over our Reese. We have had good luck with Heartland and recommend them.

Step 1
Pick the trailer you want.

Step 2
Now that you know how much the trailer weighs and the pin weight, pick the TV you need to handle the trailer. Pick a hitch that will handle the trailer and fit the TV.

Another vote for Heartland and B&W hitches. Love my Big Country and Companion hitch. Personally I think their owners forum could be condensed as it has way too many categories and several haven't had activity for months or sometimes years.

Can't comment on the Landmarks, as we have a Heartland Gateway, but I would comment that we've had excellent experience dealing with Heartland. They are very responsive and professional to work with. We had a number of issues with our unit, but all was made well under warrantee and we are quite satisfied with the end results. We love our Heartland.

Also, I'll throw in another recommendation for B&W hitches.

Overall we are very happy with our 2014 HL Savannah. It's not perfect but for the dollars spent compared to other comparable products I feel it is the best balance of features, floorplan, construction details, quality and cost.
Did I tell you how much we love the Savannah floorplan? We have had zero system failures but the slideout seals around the bedroom slide were damaged in the painting process by exposure to solvents and had to be replaced along with a torn slideout on the DS slideout. The heating duct connectors connecting the heating ducts to the furnace had fallen out place and heat was not being distributed well throughout the trailer. The heat duct on the bedroom floor had very low airflow due to the subfloor cutout not matching the ducting so there was a flow restriction and the heat duct in the stairs had fallen out of place because the heat duct was not secured well.
Even after a thorough PDI I still found many loose plumbing fittings in both the supply lines and the drain lines. The kitchen sink bowl drains were very loose and the bedroom sink would not drain well at all because the sink drain plunger was assembled 180 degrees out of place which prevented correct drain plunger movement.
On the Heartland owner forum you will find a number of owners including myself have had to reinforce kitchen drawer bottoms as they are assembled without any glue and any significant weight in the drawer pops out the bottom.
So far the factory and dealer after sale support has been very good

The interior fit and finish is very good and the full body exterior paint quality is excellent.
The dual AC's cool the unit down very effectively and the entertainment equipment and cabling was installed correctly and work first try without any issues.
We chose to immediately install 17.5 inch H-rated wheels and tires along with Mor-Ryde IS suspension and Kodiak disc brakes which provide us a very confident safe towing experience and provides a for long term benefits for our trailers conditions afforded by the much improved ride for the trailer and it contents.
The additional aftermarket cost for the suspension, brakes and wheel/tires equaled about 10K however that was factored in when compared to other brands we were considering.
HL are planning to offer these features as factory installed options shortly and I would strongly encourage you to consider all three.

May want to look at a BD3 from Trailersaver, an air cushioned ride makes a big difference. We had a Reese Signature series until we upgraded to the BD3.

Good luck!
