Hello guys! Just to give some background, I would like a Toy Hauler and will be towing with a 2015 Ram CC 3500 SRW Diesel w/air suspension. Payload after family of 5, dog, hitch and extras is 2950lbs giving me a TH weight of about 13,500-16,600 depending on PW according to the 5th wheel St website. A DRW was not an option for many reasons so I will have to find a 5th wheel to match the truck. Way too many hours have been spent researching and i understand truck weights/pin weights, DRW vs SRW and the like but what I have not found in my research is how much Pin weights go up in 5th wheel toy haulers from the factory brochures when loaded. Iโ€™m guessing the PWโ€™s on the TH are so high to compensate for the toys in the back of the TH.

The perfect TH for me would be a Used Grand Designs 328M, GVWR 16,500, Dry 12,400, Hitch 2,500 but I have found a Used Cyclone 3800 for a good price where the Title weight is 14,200 giving me 2400lbs of CC depending on PW.

***So the whole point is this.*** Understanding that TH are a totally different animal, I would like to get the Pin weights of your TH empty (not just the manufactureโ€™s number if you have it) as well as after you have loaded your TH to get a good perspective on real world TH weights and PWs. Most of the time, the big toys will not be with me, so if you donโ€™t have toys, that is fine.

Yes, I know there is another post about this in the 5th wheel section, but it does not list Toy Haulers specifically.

Please list your:

Model of 5th wheel TH
Manufacturer GVWR
Manufacturer Dry weight
Manufacturer Hitch weight

Actual Empty Dry Weight
Actual Empty Dry Hitch Weight

Camping Actual GVW loaded with or without toys
Camping Actual Hitch/Pin Weight

2013 Voltage 3905 and a 2010 F450 on the cat scale. Toy hauler was empty and scaled at 16,200 with a PW of 3240. By empty I mean we had come back from camping and unloaded clothes and food and completely drained all the tanks. We still had our pots, pans, lawn chairs, first aid kit and those kinds of things still in the trailer. I thought my 2000 F350 SRW could handle it, but I was wrong.

Unloaded toyhauler, no water, no toys = 2640 lbs of pin weight.

Fully loaded toyhauler, full water, full gas, sandrail and 2 full size quads = 3400 lbs of pin weight.

All of my weights are from a CAT scale.

I have a 2014 Ram 3500 SRW . Truck weighed 8700 with me and a full tank of fuel at the Cat scale, leaving me with another 3700lbs payload and 3520 on the rear axle. I figure with the small kids in the back (110lbs now), hitch (150lbs), I need to be around 3200max or so on the pin weight. GVWR of 16500 for the toy hauler...so I have been looking at similar units.

I really like the Momentum 348M, but think it might be bit too much PW. I have found the Fuzion's with the Monster Plus package are very close to their listed pin weights (most likely because there are not many options you can add to it). The Fuzion 325 runs around 3k PW ready to camp (minimal water). THrowing a RZR or a quad or two in the back seems to lighten the PW around 200-300lbs. Thunderbolt XLR 340x12hp is listed at 11600 dry, 2400 PW..optioned up I saw one at the dealer 12400 and around 2800PW so there are a few examples.

Actual Manufacturer Dry weight is going to be a one time number when it leaves the factory. Once any options dealer or you are added, propane, hoses, water, or any gear is added it will always be a greater number. To me dry weight numbers are next to useless.

In theory pin weight should be less with toys in the back...........

Sorry wish I could help with actual numbers but the only numbers I care about are axle weights and gross weight ( I have DRW )

Good Luck

Thanks for the reply. I know that the original PW will be a one time number, and useless after that. Reading through a lot of posts, it appears they (PW's) tend to vary by quite a bit in the same year make and model. Given my payload capacity, I would like to find as many used Trailer options as possible. The truck really doesn't matter if guys could post information, others could find trailers to suit their truck. If made a sticky, and guys posted real info, this would be an excellent resource for guys to make decisions on.

There are a lot of guys in my situation, by the sheer number of 2500 trucks pulling a 18k pound RVs around. (Obviously overloaded). I know the truck can pull one of these trailers, because I have seen many at local RV parks, but that is not how I would like to operate. Plus, I would like to visit the east/west coast, don't want a ticket for an overloaded rig, and want to keep the family safe.

Thanks guys!!!!!
