Metal carport for 5th wheel questions

I'm going to be ordering a Carolina Carport or similar for my camper. I'm getting a 18X36' size. It'll be the "regular" style with the curved over sides.

My question is...what leg height? I'm curious if the 11' will be tall enough or if I should go ahead and get the 12'?

I want to be able to park with the driver's side as close to the inside wall as possible to hopefully park my truck beside camper. Just want to make sure I'll have enough true clearance at the sides.

Thanks

mine is 41X16X12. enclosed down the one side, I paid right around $3600.00 installed(tax, tip and some extra work the installers had to do to get it to fit around my house carport..)I had to pay for 18' wide rvport but it was customized to fit the 16' space I had to install it..also paid around $350 for some extra crush and run gravel. I have since installed a 3' panel on the left hand side to keep sun off that side of the camper. I am looking at installing at least a half gable end on the back side, wish I had done it in the beginning.
TNT carport out of Mt. Airy, Nc. Carolina Carport is also in Mt. Airy, NC both run online sites for sales and installs.
hope this helps you.

Mine 18 X 40 and 13' at the eves with openings on the north and south, was what I wanted. $3,800 with permit and 8' closure on the west and 4' on the east.It gave me enough space to park the fiver inside with the truck beside although tight. I had a 7' property line setback mandate. If I had had the room, it would have been 24 wide.

I was looking at those, but for the same $$ will be putting up a 24 wide x 50ft long 16ft high Pole barn. That way I can park the 41ft 5th wheel in with all sides out. And still park my truck and boat along side it.
Also putting in full hookup's inside and outside along with Extra lights inside as it will be fully inclosed.
Man wish when I put the metal building up for the Truck camper. That I had built it 50ft long . But its 35ft wide and 30ft deep. So just turning it into a shop.

WOW...building costs must be WAY cheaper up there. Cheapest pole barn quote and it was a 16'X40'X12 was over $4000

20X36'X12' metal carport is less than $3000 installed

As you can see from Fred42's pricing his layout cost over $7000 plus he supplied all the fastners. For that money, I would certainly be pricing out a traditional built pole barn to see how costs compared.

Forgot the 6x6x20ft will be treated lumber. Poured in Concrete and sitting on a gravel bed for drainage.

Was that price installed as well?

Sorry for not seeing this before. Health issues did not let me get the pole barn up last fall. Not sure if that was with labor. But even if its not, still a great price. And figure there labor will be around $1000.
With the $$. Bonus last week, will get it enclosed and wired.

Price my Neighbor Quoted me (Amish building maker) was $3. Sq ft so $3600. for the pole barn 16ft tall x 24 wide x 50ft long. Now this is open no sides. As Our plans are to inclose it next fall. And add full hook ups inside and outside also. Never know when someone may need to stay for a week or so.
Pete

That is a FANTASTIC price!! I wish I could get something for that price here

Make sure you go as long as you think you might need in the future. I built mine 40' long because my fifth wheel at the time was only 35',:)You guessed it, I went and bought a 43' fifth wheel and now have 3' of fifth wheel sticking out.

And as stated above, check for local building codes and check for permitting. Also check zoning requirements.....Our county has a strange "loophole". You may construct a 120 sq ft building and it does not require a permit. A 200 sq ft building require a NO fee permit. But you can construct 2 ( or more) 120 sq ft or 200 sq ft buildings and they cannot attached; space them 1/4" apart, and you bypass any fees.....Wonder how that slipped through?????

Go 12' for sure, I am in a delima now (another thread on this as we speak) where I went with 11' for my travel trailer and now I want to go to a 5th wheel and I am within INCHES of clearance. Not sure it will work. I would also recommend going the next step longer as well, again, for the possibility of upgrading one day.

And you may want to shop brands, I have heard not so great things about Carolina Carports, they use a thinner gauge steel and it can twist up in severe winds.

I would not want it any narrower than 20'. Notice the side braces which narrow the opening.

I was relatively pleased with this company and their work. English is not the first language of the company and you have to be careful when ordering oddball things like I did.

Nice RVport Fred. Lots of extra room. Concrete floor too thats real nice.
I like the extra width. I only had a 16'wide space for mine and 41 length. I went with 12 ft sides and enclosed right hand side, wishing now I had done the back side or at least the gable on that end. I want to close it up for the winter and really can't without rigging it some how...

20x40 with 12' legs. 24x46 would have been awesome to do, but wasn't easily doable due to how my land laid. Would have had to move a LOT more dirt.
