More Tire Problems

Leaving Needles, CA yesterday, had 2 Carlisle tires let go. 1 spare only. This was at the 29 Palms/Amboy exit. With only one spare, after contacting Big O Tires I decided to limp back into Needles since they were wanting to close early. That was a scarey ride at 20 MPH on I40. I made it back in time to have them mount 4 new China bombs to get home. The two remaining tires had tread separation and one was starting to chunk. The tires were 5 years old and on the trailer nearly 4 years and had low miles, probably less than 1500 miles. Everything I've read here and other sites all basically say the same thing. Replace every 3 years or expect problems. I've read about the Maxxis tires and they don't seem to cost anymore than any other brand, so what is the big deal? Do they last longer or are they being replaced every 3 years. Does anyone have any long term reports on the Maxxis ST8008 tires?

All 5 of my Carlisles failed and I have had good experience with two sets of Maxxis.

I know exactly where you were. That sucked limping on i-40 in the hot desert for that many miles. 5 years, past time to replace tires - especially tires rarely used.

Has to be a "China Bomb" issue. Couldn't be an old tire, under or over inflation, road hazard, high speed, hot temperature...yup..a China Bomb.

I have the Maxxis 8008, ST 235/80/R-16 and it appeared that I had a belt separation and ended up changing out the tire last Thursday, the tires are three years old, I don't know exactly how many miles I have on the them; I am outside of Cleveland and I have been to Colorado twice, Tennessee two times, and PA, WV, hand full of times.
So on Saturday I went to my local tire store where I purchased them from and they looked the defective tire, as it did have a belt separation and they told me that Maaxis warranties there tires for 6 years and gave me a $90.00 credit on the damage tire. I went ahead and purchased two new Maxxis tires. So that my experience with Maxxis tires.

step up a load range. that will help. and keep tires covered when not in use will prolong the life with a little good maintence,
