So being new to the fifth wheel community - haven’t bought one yet because I am concerned that my new truck, 2022 2500 4x4 short bed may not tow it safely. Although factory prepped for the hitch; research is showing that the gross weight of 10,000 pounds would be maxed out.

Considering the purchase of a toy hauler . What concerns me is the weight on the bed.
Truck will tow 20,000 pounds. Units looking at are the RAPTOR 351 or a Logan Toy Hauler.

Thank you for your input.

My 11200-11400 lb 5th wheel rv trailers pin weight adds 2200 lbs-2400 lbs to my '03 2wd 2500 Dodge/Cummins rear axle.
I keep scale axle weight tickets in all my trucks. This truck weighs 2840 lbs on the 6000 rawr leaving it with a 3140 lb in the bed payload.

Actual scaled rear axle weights after loading the trailer and hooked up runs in 5200 lbs to 5400 lb range varies depending how we load the trucks bed and in the front of the trailer. Well under the trucks 6000 rawr.

Certain years and configurations of 2500 Rams came with 6000/6200 or 6500 rawr.

Drive axle 5860#, GVWR is 6500#. Tires are 285-60-20 3690#
I know I'm good, but was just saying that a DRW tows so much better.

Gary...could you give your rear axle wt, with a pin of 2,320 lbs on it? If you don't have a lot of stuff in the bed, and a super heavy hitch, you should be golden, even adding several hundred more lbs of pin.

You have a nice rig!

IMO, given the market for trucks, I'd be willing to bet the OP could trade in his 2500 on a new 3500 and not be out of pocket much, at all. I know one lady who lost her husband suddenly and had to sell her FW and truck. FW was a 38' Reflection that my brother bought. Truck was a '20 RAM 2500 that had about 3k miles on it. She sold it back to the dealer for $3800 MORE than they paid for it a year earlier.

Well I could say ^^^^^^ X4, but the OP has his truck.

Tuff decision time, if he wants a big 5er, he needs a bigger TV. his is a 2022, how long has he had it and how big a hit can he take to get a more capable TV.

Yup got the truck - beautiful and love it. Reading here from you guys just thinking it won’t do the job. $70 grand is a hard hit if it won’t do the job!. Speaking with the dealer they tell me the pin weight of a 13,000 lb 5th wheel should be around 1800 lbs; but the specs on the trailer say 3300.

Since you already have the truck, you're going to have to re-think the trailer you want. Those are just way too much for a 2500 truck. There =are= some pretty large bumper pull THs, so you may have to opt for one of them. Rule of thumb with FWs is to settle on the FW =first=, then buy the truck to fit.

Or buy a truck like mine and tow what you want. 😉

The cost difference between a 2500 and 3500 is pretty small, so just get a 3500 and have done with it! 🙂
