OK I messed up when I asked about places to stay in the dc area, I did not include the route. We are taking 81 out of Knoxville, TN to Gettysberg, PA. What is this route like, grades, narrow, switchbacks, etc.. My rig 5er, is 51 ft overall.

For anyone that may have had a ximilliar problem the right front tire on the 5er is wearing on the outside edge of the tire, all other tires are wearing evenely. I am going to check all bolts and lugs on the suspension and tires today.

Thanks for your help.

No one else mentioned the unusual tire wire. You probably have a bent axle. A shop that does truck alignments can probably take care of that. I had a similar problem on a previous unit.

I always thought that that part of 30 sort of sucked.
and yes, 81 has truck traffic but no problem with it.

Or stay on 81 and get off on RT 30 will take you right into Gettysburg. RT 30 east to Gettysburg is a nice road no big pulls. This is the route I take when coming from TN to my membership CG in Gettysburg. The 70 to rt 15 is about a hour leg of your trip. 30 will get you there faster.

I 81 N to I70 E to 15 north as mentioned.

I 81 has little truck traffic ??????? I 81 is a main truck route to the big cities of the North East from every where in the country, plenty of truck traffic for sure.

I-81 is an easy drive...it's interstate with nothing extreme. Also, has very little truck traffic. We always use that route to avoid Baltimore/Washington.

take I-81 to Hagerstown, over I-70 to frederick and north on 15. avoid the DC area entirely.
nothing remarkable driving that way as far as road conditions.
