Shorter 5th Wheels

After 3 years with a 28' TT for week long vacations, my wife and I are looking at a shorter 5th wheel for an upcoming 12-18 month road trip around the country. We would like to keep the trailer under 32' so we can fit into state and national park campgrounds. So far our short list the Arctic Fox 27 5L, Arctic Fox 28 5C, and the Glacier Peak F26 RKS. With the other brands we have looked at (Cougar, Montana) it appears that their shortest models start in the 35' range and go up to 41'. We are looking for a well-constructed unit (no "lite" models). Will be purchasing a 1 ton diesel/single rear wheel for towing. Any recommendations for brands and models that would meet our criteria?

With your criteria of quality and choices listed.... youโ€™re down to โ€œonlyโ€ the Arctic Fox!

3 years ago we purchased our 27-5L, had got close to a couple Glacier Peaks we liked felt they didnโ€™t quite match up to the AF. Havenโ€™t regretted it a bit as our AF floor plan is the best of any rig weโ€™ve had. I was in a few weeks ago the new floor plan 28-5C. Three nice things not on ours, the fireplace, double door fridge and a little more room at the foot of the bed to walk around. Still we would not make a change for those as the best part of ours is how open the living area is that allows full access with the big slide retracted in.

We've been looking for the same type of 5er, as we now have a Cameo 32FWS and want a shorter lighter one. After extensive looking, we've gotten a 2018 Grand Design Reflection 29RS. It's 30'11", well built, and <9k#. Price was $36k out the door.

We love our Glacier Peak 26RKS. We looked at everything on the market in all sizes and shapes and we kept coming back to the ORV unit.

Glenda Titaniumโ€™s has a unique front cap that means you can have a FW that is 5โ€™ longer but same too length and are quite sturdy and some have doble glassed glas.

The Arctic Fox fivers have a good reputation for durability & being well built. Little things make a big difference such as their 10 Gallon water heater and heated holding tanks.
Also, having a 15K A/C, fireplace, and vacuum cleaner are a plus. Good luck with your full timing.

We just purchased a 2013 Heartland Big Country. The retired couple that owned it kept it in their storage building and it looks brand new! We couldn't be happier with our find! It is 33 feet long and I believe Big Country is rated for full time. We are also planning our first big trip in September. I think the new Big Country starts at 35 feet though. Hope you find what you need!
