Stolen truck update. 2nd Final update!

The truck was delivered to the Ford dealer on Monday afternoon. The Service manager and the insurance adjuster went over the truck together this afternoon. The only damage found so far was to the steering column and the drivers door lock.

They had a mechanic look over all the fluids, transfer case, transmission and running gear. Nothing out of the ordinary was found. I told them I insist on them doing a tranny service and a front end aliagnment. I may end up having to pay for these services myself but so be it. It will be for my peace of mind.

So if all goes well I should have the truck back in a couple of days. Just in time for our Branson trip.

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement during this ordeal. My wife and I both felt so violated. Terrible feeling, hope none of you have to go throught this. Again Thanks, John

The Ravelco systems are pushing $500 installed, but they were willing to drive over 100 miles to install it at my office. I put a kill switch in this truck instead, but when we hit the road closer to the SW that newer truck will have one installed. Their claim to fame is that no vehicle with their system installed has ever been stolen.

This is why I went with the Cyclops. Price and convenience. $146.95 and it was shipped to the house. Took all of 10 minutes to install. While they may break into the truck again I don't really think a thief would take the time to diagnos why it won't start.

Well aware of the cost of Ravelco - as (also) anyone else who has looked into pricing.

Still wondering if anyone actually has one?..:@

For the Cyclops or home-made starter interrupt users.......

A *VISUAL* deterrent should be added - either as a stand-alone, or back-up for your no start device.

A *LOT* of damage can be done well *BEFORE* the attempt to start the vehicle..:(

Example: BIL's '03 D/Max dually parked in front of his house.
Entry made by cutting door skin at the door handle. No window damage.

Apparently the car alarm was activated when the thieves removed the
bulb in the dome light - which caused them to abandon the effort.

He slept thru all that in a bedroom about 50' away from the truck,
until alarm woke him.

Insurance -minus deductible- covered replacement of door skin, and repaint of door - with commensurate "down time".
IIRC - in the $3K range.

My choice for visual deterrent is a Disklok steering wheel lock, which I modified (eliminated the furnished lock & handle).

Bright yellow - covers entire steering wheel.

DiskLok must (somehow) be removed to steer the vehicle - or access the steering wheel.
"The Club" - or variants - it ain't!

Sure a determined thief can steal anything - but Disklok will require a large bolt cutter for the lock - and lots of maneuvering to access it (the lock).
Hopefully -a visual deterrent- making theft not worth the effort.

Don't recall who I purchased from.
Even with correct spelling, LOL!....Google search seems to be all UK suppliers.

what does all of that rewiring, etc. do for your warranty? if a computer fails, is the mfr. going to blame it on the non-factory wiring setup?

Thanks to all. Forgot to mention, the Cyclops anti-theft device is installed and seems to work great. If interested here is a link. Oh and even though it works as advertised I still blocked the truck in with the wifes Expedition last night! LOL Thanks again.

I don't have one of these - but posters on the various diesel truck forums swear by 'em.....

(link failed) so......

Google: "Revelco" - or - "Revelco Anti-Theft Device"

.

It's actually "Ravelco", with an "a". www.ravelco.com

Thank you.

Do you have one - or know anyone who does?

(For a "how do you like it?")

Well our trip to Brandon was great. But, there was an issue with the transmission. Took the truck back to the Ford dealer Monday. Just heard back and we need a new transmission. Seems the output shaft was getting in a bind causing a rough start from a standstill. Engine would rev up and transmission would grab. It didn't do it all the time.

Anyway the insurance adjuster has authorized the dealer (Midway Ford) to replace the transmission and repair some minor scratches plus a couple of small dents that were not there before. What a relief!!!!

High five to Met Life auto insurance. They have taken great care of us.

All is well that ends well.

I had a nephew call me after a minor fender bender. I was concerned about a "puddle" until I realized that the tow truck driver had taken a leak.

I have seen what appears to be those puddles in Walley's parking lot before. :h
