How long will it last ?

I have my used 5er still that I've had for three years and love it. I bought it for hunting but we take one trip away with it a year normally.

This year we have decided to take two trips and it will be at the same RV park 10 days apart between trips. The owner of the park has agreed to let me leave my 5er there in the storage area for the ten days instead of haling it home and back for no reason as I am in Canada and they are a 5 hour pull to the US.

My question is I have never been without shore power so I don't run the fridge on propane very often. If I leave a full 30lb tank of propane in the 5er am I correct to assume it will run the fridge for 10 days no issue so I can leave some things in it ?

Thanks

empty the fridge and dont worry about it

Yes - Empty the fridge, shut it down & leave the fridge doors open.

Battery & propane to trlr = off.

You will be way happier when you return!..;)

Having had food left in an RV fridge without power I can tell you that it is not a good situation to be in. The smell will penetrate the surrounding insulation and make it near-impossible to salvage.

Plan to consume the food by the end of your trip and you should be good to go.

Good luck
Bill

Good question!

I do have solar, how long will the fridge run on a 20lb tank of propane, anyone know?

Thanks,
Caryl

Question is, "how =much= solar"? ๐Ÿ™‚

Lyle

I have a 100 watt panel and two 6 volt deep cycle golf cart batteries wired in series (12v).

Why, how much dc power does a fridge running on propane draw?

Didn't know of "solar" meant a trickle charger, or something more serious. Definitely "more serious". ๐Ÿ™‚

It sounds like you are not going to be doing this but if you or someone else is thinking of leaving your refer running on propane while away for several days, just remember one ignition error and it will be off 'til you return.

Even if you have enough power to manage, my concern would the "what if" scenario. If something goes wrong and you lose power to the fridge, you could be returning to a new life form. I'd rather lug the food than come back for vacation to that.

Thanks guys the battery never crossed my mind at all and you guys are correct it will die. I guess I will just empty the fridge and disconnect the battery before I leave as I will leave the fridge door open and the light will stay on if I don't.

....remove light bulb:)....I'd still disconnect battery(ies), due to other voltage draws as alluded to earlier.

When my frig is turned off, the light will not come on while door is open, even when on shore power or with the battery on.

Same here...but I thought OP said he had "older" unit....on older units I could turn fridge off and light would still come on if door open.
Irrelevant if you disconnect the battery the light will be off.

agree...I was just for silliness stating that you could remove the light bulb and light won't work either...It's obvious there will be zero power to the unit if battery is disconnected..

I'm guessing approximately 30 days based on usage we see.

Wow - Thanks! That is good to know.
