Toy Hauler for Giant Scale Model Airplanes?

I recently sold my bumper pull TT and bought a slide-in TC so I could pull my large model airplanes behind in their 12' Interstate cargo trailer. I looked for a toy hauler that would suit my living and hauling needs, but I could never find the perfect setup.

Does anyone here use their toy hauler to transport their model airplanes? If so, I'd like to see your setup.

I will post some pictures of mine when I get a chance to load everything up and head out to my first fly-in!

Regards,

Jeff

I don't have any pics of the cargo trailer, but here are some of the planes I have or have had and a couple of my buddies' planes so you can get a better idea of scale.

Hope you enjoy!

Average wingspan of my planes is around 110". Biggest one weighs 50#. I haul 4-5 of them at a time.

I really think I have a good combo now with the TC and cargo trailer, as I can back the cargo trailer up to the flightline and then move the truck and camper to a quieter area of the field for camping. I have a solar panel on the cargo trailer so I can charge the airplane batteries and my radio and run an inverter so I can use my dremel tool, drill press, covering iron, heat gun, etc. can't wait to put solar on the TC for those extended stays at "dry" fields.

I will report back and add pictures after my first fly-in!

[COLOR=]Never argue with an idiot. You will be dragged down to their level and then beaten with experience.

We went from toy hauler to TC with enclosed trailer because our toys outgrew the current garage space. Yes, we could have cone with a large auto hauler with living quarters but decided to "divorce" the garage from the living space so we can upgrade or change either without having to start from square one.

It's all about the storage and getting creative with ways to hang them. I'm not saying I'm good at it, mine are usually laying on one bed or another.

Does the phrase "giant scale airplane" cancel itself out to just airplane as you approach 1:1? ๐Ÿ™‚ Seriously, how big are they? I'm used to stuff with only 3-4' wingspan which are not too difficult to find space for...

This brings back memories of a member who used to be very active here named Justplane crazy. He used to post good pictures of his planes loaded in his toy hauler. He's been gone from the forum for years though.

I use my Stealth 34' Toy Hauler for my planes. I am building a support rack under the raise up beds in the garage. They just hang with no damage. When flying time comes, I use the shaded area under the awning with tables and 110AC plug right there on exterior. I can store wings above the cabinets and my helicopters as well.

Seems like your TC with cargo trailer combo would give you more versatility and also allow you to transport your self contained hobby for day trips too. Unless the TC just doesn't have the living space room you want to be comfortable. In that case, the sky's the limit on how a TH garage could be customized to suit your hobby.

With the TC combo, one major item missing in the cargo trailer would be AC for working on planes in the cargo trailer. Nothing that couldn't be dealt with by adding AC to the cargo trailer... assuming you have a gen to run it.

Go to some fly-ins and look at what others are doing. Have seen a number of really nice setups, including workbenches, lights, and tools necessary for repairs. Many have room for a place to sleep.
