Truck tires

I need new tires on my vehicle. 2007 Chevrolet HD2500 4x4. My 5th wheel has a 10,600 dry weight and max 15,500.
What are the best tires for towing this site 5er?
P.S. I only use it 2 or 3 times a year.

I just replaced the Michelin LTX MS2's on my TV with the LTX AT2's. I noticed on the way home they were roadwalking and in general not as solid as the MS2. I took it to the shop and had it aligned, it was toed in too much. After that no problem. He said anytime you get new tires have it aligned, makes sense to me. Besides the fact it needs checking I really don't want to ruin $1k worth of tires because it wasn't aligned.

FWIW the MS2's had 7/32 (15/32 new) of tread left after 45k mi. Still a lot of life left but I changed the height(65-70)for higher weight rating.

All terrain tires typically have soft sidewalls that squirm by design. Your LTX's are a wise choice for towing. IMHO A/T's should only be used if you off road with your truck.

Some new tires will exhibit a phenomenon commonly called tread squirm for the first 500 miles or so. Most times it will disappear with mileage and use. I recently replaced the OEM Generals on my truck with Michelin LTX M/S2s but really didn't notice anything of any substance except much quieter, smoother running.

How many miles on the new tires? Also what pressure are you running?
I just put a set on mine and while they felt a little squirmy on the first 100 miles or so after a few heat cycles of long highway driving they firmed right up.

If you want to spend your money on a Chinese made tire they are the top dog from what I have read. I will stick with GY "H" tires.

I wouldn't be so quick to disregard a suggestion on another tire. I remember in this forum when XPS ribs, Duravis, or Bridgestone Commercial TAs among others were the tires of choice for fivers. Then the Sailun S637 was mentioned and is now up there and in the running 🙂

With the money I have tied up in my TV and RV going cheap on tires just doesn't make sense.

Another option for those on a budget are Mastercraft Courser LTR's. I purchased a set from a local tire shop after doing some research and finding they are made in the USA by Cooper Tire. They were considerably less than the other name brands I was looking at. So far I have about 5000 miles on them (3/4 of which towing my 12,000lb 5th wheel) with no problems or noticeable wear.

after looking today I just noticed that Michelin makes their new Defender LTX M/S2 in 295/70R18, or roughly 34" tall for a very good price (for Canada). This may actually push me towards a Michelin tire for my truck.

I have been running Michelin tires on my cars and trucks for over 40 years with no failures and great tread mileage. The Generals that came on my F350 will be replaced within the next couple months with Michelin Defenders (all 6).

Have the same truck and have run Michelin but presently have 265 Duravis R500's mounted. With approx. 25K on them it appears that they are going to out last the Michelin. Time will tell. Do run Michelin XTA on the 5er. So do like Michelin but looking for a higher mileage tire if that's possible.

Had the General POS Ameritracks on my 11 RAM Dually. 2/3 worn at 25K with a nice big tread separation on a front tire.
