Ok one more question. We are purchasing a Grand Design Momentom 380TH. Is it worth it to get an extended warranty?

Thanks

I am all in on warranty, Main AC unit failure, Convertor failure, Fuel Pump failure on the generator, all zero cost to me (my dealer waives the $50 fee for using their service department) As stated, the MFG does not control quality of components installed. I will never purchase an RV again without one.

As stated extended warranties can be a profit center for the dealership. The fine print can be a deal breaker, and if the warranty requires you to pay up front for work and seek reimbursement it seems all the more likely you can be turned down. These warranties are almost always negotiable. Don't wait till you sit down with the finance guy, negotiate as part of the sale. The $2200 can be cut down a lot, maybe 50%.

In my case we negotiated the price down and went for it. Within about 4 years the fridge went belly up. Dealer pretty much took care of everything, in the one claim alone we more then paid for our warranty between the cost of the fridge and installation. Then we had our converter go out, I was now ahead of the game before the warranty expired. Good investment? That's questionable, but coming up with the cost of the fridge/install right before a trip could have been a problem.

I got an EW from the dealer. Did some bargaining and got it down to 1700.00 dollars. In the four years of owning our Fuzion its has paid for itself already. At the end of our season last year my slides were acting funny when bringing them back in. Wound up having to replace the mother board for the coach. Really a hit and miss chance on having an EW. Great if you have it and need it, wasted money if you don't need it.

All depends whether or not you have $2200 to put up if the refer stops working after 3 -4 years.

Would be out of warranty, and that would only cover the cost of the refer, not labor.

Extended warranties are like your car insurance. You may pay for it forever and never need it, or you may need it after the 1 year warranty.

Your roll of the dice.....

Based on what I've seen on the grand design owners forum, skip the extended warranty.

Except no matter how good the build by a manufacturer the components such as fridge, furnace etc are not under the control of builder. Those are the things I would worry about.

start your own, take the cost of the EW and bank it, every month add $25.bucks and you,ll be way ahead.

Manufacturer's extended warranty is probably a good idea but aftermarket is just a big profit enhancer for the dealer.

Before buying a policy, look and compare 2 or 3 different policies. Read carefully the FINE PRINT regarding exclusions, deductibles and claim procedures. Then decide if the EW is a good deal for you.

Extended warranties are a money maker for the seller, otherwise they would not be offered. Only time, and hindsight, will answer your question. Spend the money now and if you use it, then it was worth while, don't get to use it and the money is wasted. Personally I never buy extended warranties and the vast majority of the time I have not missed it, the very few times it would have been worth while does not compare to the money we saved by not getting the extended warranty on anything.
