Water coming OUT the IN

Hello All. Over the weekend got the rig ready to go. In testing all the systems, I powered up the onboard water pump and noticed that there is a small "pee stream" coming OUT the city water IN. it is not a trickle but small and steady. I put my hand on it and waited and could feel pressure building behind it. Turned the pump off and the "pee stream" stopped.

As others previously, those check valves are junk. Can be scale, the o-ring, or even the spring broken or hanging up on itself. New check valve is in order. Buy 2, keep one in your water supply toolbox.

for a long time I thought mine would be a hard fix, so I put a hose cap on mine. Finally knew I had to fix, and found it to be very easy. Just make sure you have no leaks before you button it back up.

All the valve is, is a piece of plastic with a small gasket on it. It can get worn and the plastic piece will not go straight out when pressure from the Rv side has pressure. We had this. Yes you need to replace valve as it can restrict flow going into the Rv if worn badly.

UPDATE: Hello all. Typing from the campground now.

As a temporary measure I got the little garden hose off valve from Dollar General and put that in the tool box just for this weekend.

TOday when I turned on the faucet using the campground water supply the water worked and then stopped. I still had pressure on the campground side of my filter, regulator, and pressure gauge and up the hose to the city water connection. Nothing coming into the RV itself. Turned the pump on to finish the dishes.

Went outside and turned the supply off, bled off the pressure, and turned the supply back on and everything worked again as it should have from the campground water.

Is it possible that there is a way that valve has gotten all fowled up inside there and when I bled off the pressure and returned to normal?

I literally just took care of this exact problem on my pop up today.

I had to disassemble the valve and re-seat the valve o-ring... literally took my 10 minutes...

I followed JBarca's thread in another forum on this exact issue. You likely DO NOT NEED a new valve.. just reseat the o-ring and you are good to go.

Mine has been dribbling for years. I put a screw in cap on it because I do not want to tear it out. Mine is all together with with fresh tank fill. I know I will need to replace it eventually but not right now.

before going thru all the rig a ma role look into the hose connection, and you can usually see the check valve. Sometimes it just get cocked a bit sideways and all that's needed is to take a cloths hanger end and reset it straight and stop the leak.

Don't do that with the system pressurized from the water pump, as it will blow the o-ring out of place. Guess how I know this? Chris

first off take the elbow off and pull the screen then take a pencil eraser end and gently put the springs loaded plunger/check valve in and let it come back out and seat you might just have a piece for build up/ scale in the seat

Thank you all. We are preparing for the first weekend trip of the season, so I think I will go with the temporary plan of capping it with a short hose and shutting off the valve and then next week will proceed with the permanent fix of the check valve.

That is what I carry in my spare parts/junk bag. Never had to use it since the check valve failure that resulted in it's purchase. :h

Just add a garden hose shut off and forget about it.....those check valves are junk. Plastic plunger/spring/o-ring junk.

Or, you can get a screw-on cap to put over it when you're not using it.

Your city water inlet has a check valve in it that when working right allows water to enter the system when hooked up with a hose to a city water source. And then it works to close off the flow of water from coming out of the inlet when you use the water pump. The inlet needs to be replaced. Here is a link of what it looks like
