Hey Folks, just wondering what your take is on Westlake tires. They come standard on the Solitude 379FL and I have never heard of them. Should I look at an upgrade if I buy this 5er? Thanks.

EXCEPT BFG COMMERCIAL T/A'S!!!!Yes. I am shouting. See my post about my troubles with BFG and also the post by jackandh20. He had 2 failures last year. In addition to my issues on the BFG's BFGoodrich had a massive recall on the T/A's in 2012. I had 2 fail with busted belts on my truck. Got an adjustment of 40% on them. The recall was later but the 2 I replaced AND the 2 originals were on the recall list. Many on here have had trouble with Michelin that own BFG,

Interesting reviews.
I note the Road Hazard warranty is basically a 2 year warranty as the S&H will probably cost more than the $25% they give you in the 3rd year.

Or you can consider these 3 year life tires.

Your'e slick Tireman:)....I really don't think much of the tires mentioned, but some tires don't do much for me...have a good day buddy.

No dog (tire) in the fight

There's always good and bad reports on most tires.
The GY G614 has their detractors on the Escapees HDT forums (folks with heavy trailers).
Try a search.

G614 alternates noted there:
Yokohama
Sumitomo
Hankook

.........and there's probably others..;)

I've read good and bad about the G614's...only issue I had with them was a bad spring pack caused my 5er to sit low on a side that ripped tread off the tire, never lost an ounce of air...Used them on 5er since new (06')....no other issues once I fixed suspension.

As to others, I would again, add to the list Sailun G rated tires, they've achieved a level of quality that hardly any tires that are manufactured in China have achieved. One of the few manufacturers in china that have quality standards in place and proof of maintaining and using them in the manufacturing process of the tires

I too don't have a dog in this fight., really and I'm not defending GY G614 tires, just know my experience of almost all towing in the mountains with a 16,000 # (loaded) 5er with these tires on my 5er since 07'.

and again, when I go to replace these tires, I will see if reviews on Sailun tires are still favorable and if they are, I very well may go with them due to their competitive pricing.

Westlake comes OEM on several types of trailers and they have about the same bad reputation as other cheap ST tires on heavy trailers. Their also sold at many of the local feed store or farm and ranch stores.

For large heavy trailers I would recommend upgrading to a commercial grade LT E at 3042 lbs capacity on 6k axles.

If you have 7K axles the Goodyear G614 LT235/85-16 G load range at 3750 lbs/110 psi or a commercial all steel belt carcass Sailun S637 LT235/85-16 G load range at 3750 lbs/110 psi.

I would think there would be more options than just GY...though my 5er with GVW of 16,950# and 7,000# rated axles came with GY G614 "G" rated tires, made in Kansas.

Maybe someone can chime in on them, but I figure if they were a better tire, we would have heard of them.... Hey, if they're brand new, use them for as long as you can, but I'd really keep an eye on them....again, make sure they're aired to 5ers manufacturer recommendations.
