What brand of 5th wheel cover to purchase?

We purchased our new 5th wheel 2 years ago. For the last two winters I have stored it in a limestone mine a little over 2 hours away from me. During the summer it is stored at a storage lot less than 10 minutes away. Last winter the owner of the summer lot put in a new rule requiring the monthly payment if you wanted to keep your spot for the next summer. This lot is very nice, affordable and secure. It is also always filled in the summer with a waiting list.

I looked at other storage lots near me and they are all more money and mostly full. The security of some is also very poor. One lot I used to use with previous 5th wheel had many issues with. My front compartment was broken into and someone tried to remove my awning assembly damaging it.

My goal is to perhaps purchase a quality cover to use for the winter and keep it in the same storage lot. I want to do this because the mine storage cost is increasing and paying double hurts an already tight budget.

I am looking at three brands of covers:
1. Calmark
2. Classic Accessories SkyShield
3. Adco Designer Series SFS AquaShed Cover

I would like to get feedback on each to help make up my mind.

Thank you for your assistance!

OP Here,

Seriously thinking of getting the Classic Accessories SkyShield Deluxe Tyvek 5th Wheel Trailer Cover.

I found the correct size for my 5th wheel on the Wal-Mart website and they are on clearance for $471.00. This is much more affordable then the CalMark.

Has anyone used this cover and how has it worked out for you?

I don't recommend any cover. I had one and it burnished the paint from blowing in the wind.

I just saw one last weekend on a seasonal site. I cant believe it is an good thing, though. Would seem like it would hold moisture in...but what do I know...
The boats that I have seen shrink wrapped, had vents in the wrapping; but other than the roof, vents wouldn't do anything on a TT. It would be pretty easy to put a pitch (with air gap and venting) on the shrink wrapped roof. Don't know what the cost is, I was just musing about the possibilities.

OP here,

Well I have to rule out CalMark due to cost. I finally got the fast quote response and it was $1300 without shipping. I knew it would be more money than non custom fit but I just can't afford this price. I'm sure that they are great covers but out of my budget

OP Here,

Sorry for the delay in responding but I have been rather ill.

Thank you for all your responses. I want / need something to help protect the 5th wheel. My previous 5th wheel all of the graphics shriveled up cracked and had to be removed. I do not want that to happen to this 5th wheel.

I have a complete set of foam cutting tools that I use for my train hobby. I plan on making custom pieces to place wherever there is a chance for rubbing to protect both the cover and the RV.I do not have full paint on my 5th wheel.

I have sent several requests to CalMark but they have not responded. I do like the idea of a custom cover as this will reduce the movement of the cover.

Does anyone know of any other custom cover makers?

Thanks again!

Dave

Check to see if there's a place near you that makes custom boat covers. Chances are, the materials might be better than a commercially available cover.

I bought a cheap one from Walmart and it's lasted three winters so far, the trees block most of the wind but if I get 4-5 years on the cheapest one I'll probably do it again

I wouldn't buy one. I had one for a TT I owned and the cover burnished bare spots on the paint from blowing in the wind.

If your 5th wheel has fully body paint, I'd be careful about putting a cover on it. they have been known to rub the paint off where they touch from the wind.

Our Adco fifth wheel cover is in its 10th year purchased in 2009. When I first put it on I was skeptical about how long it would last, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Cover is usually on from November to mid March, sometimes have to shovel snow off of unit. Only problem so far is that one zipper has packed in but otherwise a really great cover for us.
Drying before summer storage is a definite must.
