Who installed your hitch?

We are planning to trade our TT for a 5er - my truck does not have the fifth wheel prep or whatever (not predrilled for hitch).
Would you allow the camper store to install a 5th wheel hitch, or better off going to like a U-Haul or somewhere? Small mom and pop camper dealer or mega-store?
I absolutely want it done correctly.

I had mine done at my buying dealer Thunder RV in La Grande Or while I did my PDI. They did a perfect job. After owning 3 trailers from 3 different dealers I know that one of them would never be allowed to touch my truck. Would I do it myself if knowing what I know now? Probably not, only because I'm 64 and done crawling around under my rigs unless absolutely necessary. In my younger days definately.

I had LineX install my PullRite superglide with underbed mount. I bought my truck used and it already had rails that were rusted out. I am not very mechanical so ANYONE else would have done a better job than me. They even ground out my old rails for free since I was giving them so much business. It also saved me from having to take it somewhere to get the old rails off, over to LineX to get it sprayed, and back to somewhere else to get the hitch installed. They even put in a tonneau for me. One stop shop, everything has been perfect. I figure a shop that does truck accessories knows enough.

Simple to install B&W. Like everything, measure twice, cut once. No rails to muck up your bed when you want to haul other stuff.

Just to clarify the 14 RAM 2500 got the option for pucks. The 3500 got the new frame and puck option in 2013.

I installed the OEM pucks myself on my 2015 3500.

Yep, you're right Chris, the '13 3500 had the 5th wheel prep kit option.

I also installed my kit myself. It was a little nerve racking drilling big holes in the bed but I'm incredibly happy with the system.

My same RV dealer installed (in '90 chevy/'01 Dodge and '03 Dodge) all three of the last 5th wheel rv hitches in my trucks per my instructions ie; pin location and welded frame brackets were a must for my use.

I installed mine on my 2012 Ram...really pretty easy other than needing to have help raising the bed up to install the main frame work.

Had my Pullrite Superglide done at an RV dealership with the underbed custom mounts.

I installed the B&W myself. In my case I had to cut approx 1" pyramid shape cut in the bottom side of a bed lip. This was access to slide in one of the cross members. Had to cut out a section of heat shield on my model, tuff but doable with tin snips. The big hole I used a cheap hole saw with a oiled sponge fitted inside. I only installed one of the safety chain hooks due to accessibility with drill and not planning on using a gooseneck. You don't need chains on a 5er hitch. As stated used holes in the frame. Bolts had handles attached that you feed through one hole to reach inside the frame and feed the bolt through another hole to attach brackets.

I know this doesn't fit with what OP was asking, however as an added bit of info, I have a different take on using the rails vs the smooth bed for hitching. I wouldn't have anything but the rails, (quite contrary to what most people on forum like).

Yes, rails do clutter up the bottom of the bed somewhat, but, boy are they great for tie down points when using ratchet straps to secure material to bed!

I had my selling dealer do the install. I had anxiety too. Turned out fine.
One advantage was rolling the cost into the RV loan.

If you are handy, you can do it. It requires about ten holes if you need rails. I did it myself in an afternoon. E trailer has videos and am sure others two. Follow instructions and you will be fine.
