The better half and myself think we have a plan of action kinda.

We are both on disability so stable income is taken care of.

After all bills are taken care of (car payment, health ins, vehicle ins, meds, phones, internet and food. We will have about $400 left over for fuel a month. We want to travel and see the country. Time is not an issue but we want to try and boondock as much as possible and take advantage of the BLM land for the 21 days a month.

We have led interior lights, 200 watts of solar, an extra 35 gallon H2O bladder for the truck bed.

Our home state would be Oregon, the question I am asking is where should we go first?

We have both paid into the pool working most of our lives. It is not our choice to be disabled. I would NEVER wish anyone to have to deal with the pain and suffering I have to deal with not only on a daily basis but sometimes it is on an hourly basis.

Wow- nice arrangement. Regular Government support and all tax free, right? I'd sure like to get on that gravy train but have never understood how folks make that happen. Got any tips for us "wannabes"?

EXACTLY adayjk, you only life once. This is not about how far you can travel it is about the journey itself. If we find a place we like then we stay and enjoy the view for a week or so. As I said all of our bills are paid for. The $400 will give us about an 800 mile range....we are not in an hurry....

I have been around the world and the US and have seen alot of things but I never had the opportunity to actually look.

I'll go 180 on the advice. If it were me I'd stay away from the credit card except for real 911 emergencies. Other than that, go for it! Stock up on healthy foods. If you run out of money, sit and wait for payday. Yea, lack of a big bankroll can slow you down, but when are you going to have more money, or health to travel?

I would really like for your dreams to happen I do feel however you need to look at your budget. It would be hard for anyone to give you a realistic account without knowing your exact numbers, expenses, income etc. I would like to have given you a more positive response but so many variables will affect your plans.
To answer your question on where to start. Stay close to home, family until you get a realistic look at things.

The only drawback is the fuel budget. If only she did not have the car payment we would have an additional $400. As I said we are in no big hurry to get to any one spot. Our plan is to take billions of pictures and write journals or even video logs. We are not getting any younger, nor healthier.

PS, Yes we have a safety margin of an additional $100 plus the credit card if we need it, but we do not want to..

The trips with our TC took close to $100.00 when we fueled up, so depending on how far down you draw the fuel, this is close to only 4 fill ups (with our truck), then you need to think about any exploring in the area that you are camped (this depends on using your truck). Do a short trip and see just how far you can go on a fuel up and this will tell the distance you can travel. Hope it all works out as there is nothing like exploring in a TC.

It costs us about 45¢ a mile but we go with 50¢ a mile if we want to put it on paper. $400 would get us about 800 miles.

How about back to the drawing board? I hesitate to discourage you, but $400 per month for fuel will not take you very far! I go through that in two days on the road and your vehicle is not going to use any less fuel than mine does! Be prepared for very short and infrequent trips.

WOW $400.00 per month for gas???? That really isn't very much - do you plan on staying in one place for long periods of time?

When we travel to PA on vacation we spend at least $500.00 in diesel (traveling with the TH & side trips) - and we are only gone 10 days - and we don't do too many distance side trips!

What will happen if you need to find a campground - does that come out of your $400.00?

Heck if you can budget that, please go for it BUT crunch your numbers so you don't come up short!
