Are we really "full timing"?

Fun topic. We are purchasing our first RV and will be living in it full time in Daytona Beach, Florida. We will be there for a few years before we actually move it. At least for any length of time. So...are we really full timing? Or do you consider full timing actually travelling with it? Your thoughts?

It doesn't really matter what any of US think, it matters what this particular forum thinks. If you want discussions about commuting to work, or where you get blue tarps.. along with how many miles a day is comfortable.. fine with me.

Several of us work fulltime jobs and have the ability to live where we like in our RV fulltime. Much easier to move to a new city or environment when my house has wheels. I'd love to be retired to do as I please 24/7 but given my age I'd be one lucky guy. Rather than wait for retirement to live a mobile life I've chosen to jump in now. So, I live fulltime in my RV and travel pretty much where I like.

I don't know what you call me but I'm enjoying it.

Wait, what? Because I have a 9-5 job (non-RVing related), I'm not a fulltimer? But my wife is a stay-at-home mom and kids don't work, so are they fulltimers?

We travel from place to place every 1-2 weeks depending on where we want to go and see. We then tourist it for the time that we're there on nights and weekends.

I live “full time” in my RV. However, I don’t much enjoy traveling in it even though it got a lot better this last year after making some major upgrades to the suspension and installing a new engine. It’s still a 33’ behemoth to drive. What I do and will continue to do is winter for 4-5 months in AZ because I like it there and there are many local activities available such as hiking, backpacking, mineral exploration, and quail hunting. When I head north in late April I’ll be staying at places for a month at a time using my RV as a base camp and my 60mpg 250cc dualsport motorcycle and 25mpg Dodge Caravan to explore the area. I currently stay in RV parks but as soon as I can upgrade my electrical system to solar I expect to be mostly boondocking. Now I realize that you folks that are constantly on the move and can afford to pay $35 a night or more at RV parks might not consider what I do full-timing, but frankly it works for me so I don’t give a dam_.

OK, I will throw it out there .. we live in our RV wherever it is parked, for however long it is parked, whether that be one month, three months, 5 months, or 1-1/2 years to help out relation .. we are not residence of where we stay, therefore we are "traveling" ..

Seriously we volunteer about half the year, and the rest of the time we are near out daughters in an rv park .. for anywhere from 3 months to 7 months. But are mobile as we are not "planted" in one spot - not yet anywhere .. Father Time may sneak up on us one of these days and say "park it" .. but in the meantime we are living out of the state in which we have "resident" status.

I think of fulltimers as people who are always on the move, never more than a week in one place. But the more I read this forum and others, the more I realise that hardly anyone actually does that.

Many fulltimers seem to workcamp for at least a few months a year, for example, or have a winter 'home park', or stay with the kids for an extended visit once or a few times per year.

It seems like a practical definition, the way the word is actually used, might be something like, 'people who don't have an S&B, by choice.'

This is interesting to see what people qualify as full time. We are going to think of ourselves as full time rv'ers. It does have a certain romantic ring to it. And like someone said in an earlier post, who cares what people think? I've lived my life by this rule. You can tell by the way I dress...lol. GF won't let me out of the house half the time. Flip flops and a cut off Hawaiian shirt isn't proper wedding apparel? Since when? Is in my world!! Also interested in knowing why everyone got into this lifestyle? Again, just for fun.

If you work, you are not fulltiming -- you may be considered workcamping. Family stuff.. that's different. I guess it depends.

Bottom line to me: fulltiming is making use of your coach 24/7 for doing whatever it is you want to, not what you have to.

Okay, for those of you who say that living (full time) in your RV in a park isn't "full timing" - what about those who live (full time) outside of a park, but who stay in the same locale?

People boondock or dry camp in their RV, moving regularly but remaining in the same city, county, etc. due to work, family or other commitments.

Do you consider them "full timers"?
