Does anyone here use MY DAKOTA ADDRESS in Madison SD for their mail forwarding and address?

If so: What has been your experience?

Did you experience any issues with changing your drivers license to SD?

Thanks

We use Americas mailbox in Box Elder, just outside Rapid City. They do a good job. Pennington County does not have a "wheel tax" which makes them more affordable. Not only do they do mail forwarding, but they handled registering our truck and trailer, also renew our plates for us. They acted as my resident agent when I had a small business (LLC).

They have their own campground and a small hotel. Because we were not going through SD at the beginning of our journey we flew to Rapid City, spent the night at Americas Mailbox. In the morning they gave us a receipt and a map to the DMV and told us what we needed. We exchanged our Michigan licenses for SD licenses, drove the the Courthouse and registered to vote, did some sightseeing and flew home the next day.

For a small fee Americas Mailbox gets rid of the junk mail and sends us the rest. We can request our mail via their website and they send us a tracking number when they ship it. We have been very happy with their service.

As to the Non Residency affidavit we have not had a problem with that.

THATS what I was looking for. Thanks for the input.

Same here,9 years of full timing on the road, and no problems getting mail in a couple of days. All it takes is a phone call or email and done!
I don't know about other mail services, but it's really great to know what is in the mail box before we call for it.( She sends an email whenever a piece of mail arrives) We have "on demand service"
Well satisfied with MY DAKOTA ADDRESS.
We went back at the 5 year mark to renew our drivers license, a simple 20 min stop at the DMV. I understand that we can renew on line now.

If you are under Medicare age and you are picking up SD residency, it behooves you to check on medical insurance!

" I understand all of this thank you, what I am looking for is IF anyone has had the affidavit of Non Residency challenged or questioned at a SD DMV. "

No, in the several years its existed, I've not heard of one challenge. Keep in mind the real purpose of that affidavit is to protect SD. Its simply part of their process to allow an exception to providing property tax receipts, rent receipts, utility bills and similar documentation showing your SD physical street address (as required by the Real ID law). SD DMV would have no reason to question it, they just need your signature on the form so they can say they're complying with the Real Id law.
Any challenge would come from some other state where you may have established residency while claiming SD domicile. SD would not initiate the challenge, just react to some other state claiming you're really domiciled in their state, not SD.
The fuzzy part of domicile is that its based on "intent". You're saying that I currently have no real home, I'm on the road travelling fulltime, but some day I intend to return to SD. There is nothing wrong with changing your intent at some later date.
Of course if you sign that affidavit, knowing the statements are false and you actually have a residence in another state, then you're subject to court assigned penalties for perjury.

4x4, regardless of which SD mail forwarder you choose, you can go to any DMV office within the entire state to get your DL. Its the same process across the state. SD welcomes fulltimers and has a specific exception to the Federal Real ID law residence requirements (shown above).
The only issue to be concerned with, is on your first DL under the Real ID law, you must provide certain documents proving your name, address & a one night stay within SD. It can get complicated for those who have changed their name several times due to marriage/divorce or court approved name change. That's applicable in all states, not just SD, under this new federal Real ID law.

Keep in mind that if you need to purchase your own medical insurance it is difficult to get a policy in South Dakota that allows you to use doctors across the country freely.

If you are on Medicare and have a PPO supplement, you're good to go.

You have to relinquish....... we were reluctant as we both had Class A NC. But SD did not require them. Everything was very easy for SD. We used Alternatve Resources in Sioux Falls. Got our DLs in Hill City, I believe. AND our fishing licenses ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm amazed how easy this seems! Did you have to relinquish your current drivers license or could you keep it and have two licenses?

From the SD Web Site:

People Who Travel Full Time
If you are using a South Dakota mail forwarding address, you will need to complete the residency affidavit. You will also need to provide a receipt from a South Dakota hotel/motel, campground, or RV park to prove one night of stay within the last year and ONE DOCUMENT no more than one year old proving your personal mailbox (PMB) service address (receipt from the PMB business or a piece of mail with your PMB address on it). If you have friends or family in South Dakota and plan to use their address, complete and follow the instructions on the consent for use of address form. You can find these forms under the applications and forms tab on the right side of this page.

Veterans
Veterans who have been honorably discharged from the military have the option of adding the word โ€œVeteranโ€ to the front of their South Dakota driver license or identification card. In addition to the documents listed above, they will need to present one of the following:
DD-214 form which shows their honorable discharge status from active duty
Present a certificate signed by a county or tribal veteranโ€™s service officer verifying their status
DD Form 2 (Retired)
DD Form 2A (Reserve Retired)
Note to current or new CDL applicants: If you are required to carry a medical examiners certificate (DOT medical card), you must show a valid card at the driver exam station.

When we FTd we used 'Alternative Resources' out of Sioux Falls for several yrs. then we 'moved' and used 'Americas Mailbox' out of Box Elder for last few yrs.

Both preformed very well.

Thing is 'SD Mail Forwarding Businesses' are in business of handling mail.
It is what they do....and would NOT be in business very long if they didn't do it well. (Same for TX/FL mail forwarding services).
They are NOT the US POST Office.

Pick the one that fits your needs......location, services provided, costs etc.

As for SD driver's Licenses.
We had CA DL. Stopped in at a fire station in Spearfish (that was were the mobile DMV was that day). Filled out application, showed necessary paperwork, had our picture taken, paid our fee and got our new SD DLs.
Took a whole 20 minutes for both of us----I was slower on filling out application :B
