Washer/dryer

The wife and I are cautiously looking for our full time rig. One option that we keep going back and forth on is the washer and dryer. For those of you that have one; is it worth it? Is it that much more convenient than taking the load to the laundromat? How many issues are there with having one in the rig?

Marytaz.....venting the dryer to the inside adds substantial moisture to the interior. Condensation is a very real problem in RVs, even houses. That is why dryers are vented to the outside.

I'm not in a trailer yet; I'm in an apartment. I got the Haier (separate) washer and dryer units several months ago and love them> I plan on moving them to my TT when I get it. Also, it can save on heating costs...put pantyhose over the dryer vent house (that goes outside) and keep the hose inside. You get the heat without all the lint flying around - either inside or outside.

Your own washer and dryer are well worth it. I keep a running list of the units I'm aware of at http://www.momentumgunner.com/rvappliances.html but I'm sure there are more.

We are using a set from Pinnacle now, and they have worked out better than I had hoped for.

Here ya go! W/D is part of the bedroom slide. Had the same setup on the last DRV but no W/D we just used the space for storage.

We did not have a WD for the first 3.5 years of full timing. We both felt it was not a big deal to do laundry at the RV park. Then we stayed somewhere that we had to use the local public laundry. We really did not like that!

We decided to have the WD option on the MobileSuites we ordered. We also opted for the 240V dryer option. The fact is the 120V models take too long to dry and use a lot more electricity getting the job done. Ours are side by side Whirlpool apartment size. Amazing how much you can wash and dry in these. Another thing to consider is the fact we both noticed how much cleaner all our clothes and towels looked after only one washing with the new unit!

So now that we have had the WD for a few months we both keep saying we are really happy we have them!

Can you post a pic of how you have that set up? It's hard to imagine side-by-side in the space of an RV.

We have had washer and dryer in last two 5th wheels. Would not want to do without it. We have separate units. whirlpools. Love them. These are larger and does not take long to do laundry. Also they hold nice size loads. I can do my laundry in all kinds of weather. I can put a load in to wash and leave to do errands.
If anyone saw what people put in public laundry washers!!! Even in campground laundry.
I do not have to do laundry every day! I do laundry once a week and sometimes twice a week

Camping world just sent me email with a washer /dryer combo on sale and all the reviews were positive. It not something we have thought much about but it looks interesting. It would be nice to deal with our own cleaning.

As a long time apartment dweller washing and drying machines mean little in my life. I could put a W/D in my current apartment but the additional cost of property insurance (we own the apartment), re plumbed water service and upgraded electric service, increased water cost and need for plastering (yes I need to plaster not sheetrock) doesn't make it worthwhile it for me.

As such this is not even close to an amenity I'm interested in within an RV which would have much the same concerns but in a smaller space.

I have no problem using a laundromat wherever they are located.

My 5'er has a built in dirty clothes hamper which I use for whites. I use my 2100XC as a hamper for all other and when it gets full enough to run I run it. It that turns out to be daily that is OK with me. Turn it on and forget it.

If things get a bit wrinkled I don't care. I'm retired, I just won't buy that type of clothing again. Besides I'm retired, all I wear is shorts/knit shirts in the summer and sweats the rest of the year. Wrinkles - who cares.

we have a Splendide all in one unit. It's great for keeping up with undies, socks, wash cloths, dish towels. Not so much for thick towels (we buy thinner ones that dry more quickly), or dark clothes which wrinkle. There are tricks to minimize the wrinkles but too much trouble in my opinion. So we do both. We keep up with the whites in the RV and take the jeans, shorts, shirts and sheets to a coin laundry.

I can't imagine not having a washer/dryer in the MH. We had the all in one Splendide in 2 MH's and it was good. We now have the Bosch stackable and they are great. If you have the room get two stackable units, if not get a Splendide.
