Finally out here staying in an RV park for two weeks trying to tie up some loose ends before we actually hit the road. Don't have a real travel plan as yet...not sure if that's wise or not. We do plan to stay on the west coast for a while to get our bearings before we venture too far away, not to mention bad weather south and east. Guess we're being cautious for now but we're so excited to get started and experience our new life.

Well, we stayed in Utah for a month and had an awesome time visiting Zion and Bryce NP's. Utah is a beautiful state!! Now back in Las Vegas for a week taking care of some business. Actually, can't wait to leave and get out of the heat. So far, we're having a great time...both of us enjoy doing what we want when we want. We don't miss the sticks and bricks but love the ability to be spontaneous and just go.

Having no plans is no issue as others have said. You only need to figure out what you need to do to get through today. The rest will take care of itself.

Being as I am a retired homebuilder, among other things,my idea if a plan is several seets of paper that is used as general directions on how a customer wants their home built.
As a fulltimer, most of our planning consist of what state should we think about visiting next.
It seems like every time we try to plan a trip,we end up doing/going somewhere else

Planning just ruins a trip for us. Last winter we wandered around Arizona for 2 1/2 months without any reservations and never had an issue finding a place. If one was full, we moved on. We stopped at one place for 2 days and stayed for 10. Met so many friendly people and had so much fun we couldn't leave. If we had reservations all that would be out the window. To each his own. It doesn't work for everyone.

I appreciate the advice/suggestions of not vacationing but living the full time life. It just makes good sense to us. This is our life now. We arrived in Hurricane, Utah a few days ago. Have not taken to the parks as yet since we had to get used to mountain time and are both a little tired. So, to us that ties in with not being in a big hurry, take our time to rest up then we'll be ready to go sight seeing.
Think this RVing gig is gonna be fun!!

Congratulations.... we have been full-timing since November 2005. Just purchased a lot in Yuma, Arizona Foothills. We don't plan to stop traveling just slow down a little. The first few months we could not get out of the vacation mode and we wanted to see everything....don't be in a hurry. we finally realized we had the rest of our lives, slow down and enjoy life it is a great life.

We would love to be in the position. Spontaneous is the way to go! You could watch for potential bad weather. How exciting! Have a wonderful time and keep us posted on this thread of your adventures. You never know, we may meet up on the road.

We stay in membership parks with reservations needed. We are allowed to make our reservations 120 days in advance and have found that at some parks that would be required if we wanted a space. We spend 3 weeks per campground and then move on in our travels. Planning is a requirement. But then again, our camping costs are basically nothing (%540 a year).

Everybody thinks differently about travel plans. We do plan to an extent but don't want to be rigid...it's time to relax and enjoy. Think we're going to start with the national parks in Utah. That should keep us busy for a while. Enjoyed all your comments, all the food for thought is appreciated.

We have been full timing for one year but I'm sorry everyone but I need a plan!! Maybe because I spent 43 years with the Department of the Navy that this plan thing has been driven into my head. Hey, more power to you who can hit the road with not a end point, main thing is to get out and explore, relax and have a good time. We completed a 13,000 mile trip last year driving up the east coast then into Canada and finished off the trip in Florida for the winter. Were headed west this year. Everyone best safe, check your tires often, tighten all your bolts and keep everything between the ditches!!

We started 2 years ago with a plan. That flew out the window in about 2 weeks. Just taking it one day at a time now. When we tell someone that we will be along on a certain date it normally comes out as "sometime between Sunday and Saturday. We'll call when we get close or narrow it down to a day."

When you don't know exactly what's around the next corner it becomes hard to plan. Pleasant surprises are the best.
Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

The worst day in your RV is way better than your best day working! Having no plan IS a plan, and a darned good one at that. One day you will be sitting there having breakfast and it will strike you that you want to go to ... and then you will realize that it will only take you about an hour to get ready and leave! Now THAT is a plan!
