02/propane alarm keeps going off

I have a 2011 Forest River Sunseeker class C. The 02/propane alarm goes off, usually at night with no rhyme or reason. I have been told to keep propane tank no fuller than 3/4 full which we do. We still have no idea why the alarm will go. It has happened right when we park, its happen at night watching tv, etc. Anybody else ever have this problem?

It is my understanding that propane alarms get to a certain age/hours in use and start giving false alarms, requiring replacement. Ours wemt bad in our 2004 rig about 3 years ago as I reacall. The company that made them went out of business. The new unit advertised as a replacement was phsically smaller so I had to make the hole smaller in the the sink cabinet where it was mounted. The new unit had two red wires and one black. I insulated one red wire and left it disconnected and connected the other two. No more false alarms, has test button, works fine.

I've got one of those combo Propane/CO detectors, and it would chirp when the battery got low. We noticed it in winters when the heater was running on the house battery (we boondock). I have since installed a second house battery and it has not been a problem.

I also installed independent CO detectors in the rear bedroom and up by the front bunk.

I also have a Safe T Alert combo unit. Over the last 14 months or so that I've owned this MH, the propane alarm has gone off 4 or 5 times. My issue is linked to the water heater operation. The only times the alarm has sounded, have been when the water heater is on, or has been recently shut off. All connections have been checked and seem to be fine.It is believed that the fumes from the water heater, under the right conditions, are rising and entering the MH through the over the range exhaust vent, which is directly above the water heater. The outside vent cover is not a solid flap which can be closed, but rather a fabric flap. Since this idea of the cause of the alarm sounding, I have used the water heater 3 or 4 times, with the exhaust fan running, and the alarm has not sounded. Hopefully that vent location was the reason for my alarm sounding, although it remains to be seen, since it was so infrequently that it sounded anyway.

You're absolutely right on that! My alarm went off...and I had a puppy...we guessed this was it as the mechanics couldn't find anything wrong. I had a Roadtrek 170...don't have it anymore. 🙂

We had one time when the alarm went of and I imediatlly tured the propane off, the alarm continued and we vented the unit, alarm shut down closed the door and a few minutes latter it went off again.

It turned out to be the battery in the step well that was very low on water and gassing off, turned all power off and next day went into town and replaced the coach battery, check the waterv in the battery for the coach and should the alarm go off again check all the gas lines for loose connections and/or cracked lines.

I really appreciate all the responses. I like the idea of just getting two separate alarms (o2 and propane) from home depot. I pulled the fuse out of the SAFE unit so we did not have to endure the middle of the night alarms.
We love the SunSeeker. It gave us everything we needed with the exception of auto leveling. Other than that we are really happy so far.

We had a similar problem in our old TT. The LP detector was within a few feet of the water heater compartment. Often when the water heater would light, the alarm went off. When i figured out the correlation of water heater to alarm, i checked the water heater and found a grommet where the LP pipe exited the coach had slipped out of place. Pushed it back and the problem went away.

An easy fix!

I have a 2011 Sunseeker and have the same problem. I replaced the unit and still goes off some times with nothing running that should trip it. I now have an on off switch that we turnoff when we leave the coach. Got a call from the campground saying our alarm was going off. That time we think it was caused by a neighbor idling his truck next to our door.

We have a SunSeeker as well and had the same recurring alarm problem. The CO2/voltage detector went off. I found online that once your CO2 alarm goes off the 1st time, it is more prone to go off. We replaced ours with same brand and have not had any problems since. We have also had to replace the propane igniter in the fridge. Had a valve stem break off from inner rear tire. Very weird repairs (not at the same time) but we are still quite pleased with our unit.

I believe that both detectors were less than $80 total. They were purchased at Home Depot store.
