I'm looking for someone to inspect a Class A diesel at MHSRV.

Google turned this up:

$1295 for an inspection that would look for water intrusion. Am i wrong to think this should be cheaper? I paid less to inspect a 6br home...

Unreasonable in my opinion.

It sounds like they don't want the job and if they price it high enough, you'll go somewhere else.
:CNever pass up a chance to go somewhere:C

Now I like this reply lol

We had one of the Local DFW Texas(MHSRV area also) come to our dealership to do that $1300 inspection. He spent about 7 hours inspecting the motorhome(Diesel 40 ft). We already had the refer on for 24 hours before he arrived. During the day, I bird dogged him. He was very thorough going over the items. He took his time. That inspection included the fluid analysis, but I was told by him it takes a few weeks to get the results back. NOT good if you do not want to wait 2 weeks. Is it worth it? It depends on if you are flying across country to buy sight unseen. It is VERY hard to find anyone qualified to do BOTH Chassis and Coach complete inspections. This Inspection service does NOT drive the motorhome. WHY would you want to pay $1300 and they do not drive to evaluate the chassis and handling. I would think for $1300, I would get a 50 mile inspection drive. These inspectors are NOT real RV Technicians, They take a course for 5 days. Wow, What experience that gives you. They coach their on line language to make you feel they are part of the RVIA, which they are NOT. They also are NOT held liable for anything they miss or do not find on their inspections. If I did an inspection, I would be able to give a ball park figure for any possible repairs needed on items that I find wrong. THEY do not. Especially on the chassis items. I would want a chassis expert Technician, to look and give me ball park repair costs, so I would know what a fair price to negotiate. Doug

I think this could be a reasonable price if the level of inspection was high. I doubt they would be doing the things I have in mind - disconnecting and independently testing batteries, compression testing engine cylinders, removing tires from wheels to inspect for hidden damage, checking accuracy of dash gauges, using borescope to inspect likely water intrusion points, disconnecting shocks from one mount to test compression resistance, reviewing existing maintenance records to find gaps or false claims, etc.

Way too much money unless they are doing some maintenance. I paid a mobile guy $250 to do a pre-buy on my class A. He was very thorough and I was very pleased. I interviewed 4 techs before hiring one, and the one I hired happened to be the least expensive. It was very clear though that he was the ace.

I think for that particular inspection, they do a pretty thorough inspection of the engine/chassis which you may or may not get elsewhere. I paid a mobile RV tech to inspect mine, and he mostly looked at the house side. He checked the oil, trans fluid, and brakes, but that was it as far as that side of it goes.

Diesels are expensive to fix so it may be worth it.

On the other hand, if I remember correctly, the guys from rvinspection.com DO NOT go up on the roof because of liability issues. Seems like a good way to miss potential water leaks. It COULD be another company that had that restriction, I'm not 100 percent sure on that, but I think it was these guys. Either way, it's something to consider when looking for an inspector.

If you do go that route, do as thorough of an inspection as you can on your own first. Hate to drop that much money to find out its a dud and then have to spend that much again to inspect another one.

Motor Home Specialist RV.

For a bit over $1600 you could take Terry Cooper's 5-Day Tech Course and learn to be an RV Inspector yourself.

Maybe, maybe not.

I paid $600 to have a C inspected. They "found" expensive stuff that didn't really need to be serviced (like re-sealing all the windows) and missed other important stuff (like a bad battery switch that didn't charge the batteries when going down the road).

If you really DO get a thorough and competent inspection of ALL the critical components....generator, brakes, water systems, A/C, furnace, .....that price might be a good investment. But how do you know what you will be getting ??

In my case, the inspection fee was 2.5% of the proposed selling price. It would have been well worth the price **IF** they had done it right.

P.S. What is MHSRV ?

For that price, does Steve Anderson or Terry Cooper do the inspection themselves? Or just refer you to someone local to you?

(EDIT: You might also want to look under RV Mobile Technicians for an RV Inspector in your area.)

seems a bit high to me but I have no idea what others have paid. I would have thought a couple of hundred for time, perhaps they are doing other tests, pressure leak, etc.
