Best Pet for travel?

I thought it might be fun to share some good and bad pet traveling stories.

We travel with a chocolate Lab. She could not be easier to travel with. She never barks never has "accidents" in the MH and she is happy inside or outside. In short she is simply a joy to have along with us. Her only travel flaw is that she gets up on the couch when we are away from the camper. We end up removing the cushions and that fixes the problem. At home she never gets on the furniture.

We had a bulldog that passed past year at 13 years old (that's super old for a bulldog.) We did not travel with her because she would have been a terrible travel companion. She would have forced her way under the drivers feet for sure. There was no keeping her from where she wanted to be. Also she loved to pee in new places. Not good.

While in my travels I have seen people travel with 6 full sized Dalmatians, Parrots, cats and lizards. I bet there are some stories there.

My guess would be a ROCK haha... Alot of folks have animals and are part of the family... You will have to accommodate any of those animals. We have a medium size dog that goes where we go...

I don't think trading in a big dog for a small dog would go over to well for most folks. You got what's you got haha...

Best dog for camping is the one we don't have to take with us and loves staying with family while we are gone.

Our Golden Retriever, loved to go RVing with us in Canada and the USA. Every time we went out to the RV at the SnB's she was in there like a dirty shirt ready to go on the next adventure. Clean as a whistle, would hold herself for umpteen hours if she didn't like the weather outside, never went on any of our furniture or carpets in the house. Minute we got near water all bets were off and she turned deaf to any form of obedience (LOL). Miss her like crazy after 13 years, but have decided no more dogs until after we start full time for a while and feel how it might affect our travel plans

We've always traveled with large dogs and through the years, we have found that our female dogs are a little better with travel than the males. A lot of people with the small dogs are afraid of a 100+ pound dog but that is their problem, not ours. Our dogs have always been well behaved and are great around children.
When I redid the furniture in this coach, and our past coaches, I removed the carpet and put in furniture with removable seat cushion fabric that is washed after every trip. We also have a central vac unit to deal with the shedding.
We buy poop bags online and always carry a supply to clean up.
Our current Great Pyrenees has logged close to 100,000 miles with us and we expect that she will continue to travel with us for several more years.

We also travel with a chocolate lab. He does the same as you describe. Unlike you when we leave he must be crated though or the MH will be destroyed when we return, he has a bad case of separation anxiety even at home.

When I leave the MH my DW tells me that he gets up on the bed or chair to look out the window for me. Other than that he travels cross country great never getting under my feet. He loves to lay his head on the dash and look out the windshield.

I knew a lady that had a pet skunk when I was a teen. It was de-scented and made a cool pet. Kind of like a cat.

For sure it would freak people out when they walked by your camper.

Have yet to own one but, I think a pet skunk would be ideal. Does not bark and you can put it on a leash outside, and no one will come violate your site. :B
