brake pads

I just got my MH back from the service shop for a brake job. The brake pads were in real bad shape. Although there was a lot of pad left, they were disintegrating and separating from the backing plate. I had never seen anything like this before. They said that the cause was "sitting for too long". They suggested taking the MH out for a spin every two weeks. Now I have a legitimate reason to go RVing.

I would say heat or cheap pads or a little of both. I'm slowly learning it is worth it to buy premium pads. I used to think that cheap pads just meant they wore out quicker. Good pads get better grip, brake smoother, and are more stable under high stress.

Overheating degraded the disc material.......sitting for extended times did not cause the flaking/degradation of the brake material
Is it time for your medication or mine?

We had the same problem last year with our E-450, pad material flaking off in chunks. Asked the mechanic if he knew why, but said he could only speculate, age, water/salt, heat. He said that driving regularly/weekly MIGHT help, but do you really want to drive it in our winters with the salt.

The brake pads were not new. They had been used. The intervals between uses were too long. I still trust my mechanic.

Sounds like a good enough reason to me, shucks, go out on a Friday evening & spend the night at a Wal Mart an hour or so away from home.
