Chevy 6.2 or Ford 6.8

Hello
Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse on this question here but I am in the market for a 2013-2015 32ft class C. I have always had a tag travel trailer and my family and I are planning on a cross country trip. I have found many Class C that I like and the majority are the Ford v-10. We found a 2013 Chevy with the 6.2 v8 that we are leaning towards and was looking for opinions on the Chevy drivetrain over the Ford where the Ford seems to be the platform of choice. I appreciate any feedback and thanks in advance.

The Chevy chassis is much more comfortable for front passenger... I don't think there's any reason mechanically to choose between the two (except the difference in towing capacity).

We have a 2014 with the 6.0L Chevy, and love the powertrain. There was just a discussion here about it, should be on the first or second page of this Class C forum. Fords have been the default for several years, but Chevy is working its way back in.

I'm not brand loyal as it pertains to Ford and GM, either. I'd buy either one if it does what I want. I chose the Chevy in this case because I feel it was the better offering.
Currently RV-less but not done yet.

Kush1972,
Look beyond the powertrain and take a close look at the front passenger compartment.
You may find a significant room and comfort difference between the two.

The Ford VS Chevy debate has and will continue to rage on.:B

I own a Chevy Based Class C that was a former Rental and has high mileage,it was maintained well and I have had no problems with it over the many miles I have put on it. That being said I am sure the same holds true for the Fords. To give you some insight on the Chevy Platform there is a long thread CLICK HERE that may be of help.

Good luck in your Quest for that RV.

I hadn't seen where Chevy Class C chassis, the 3500 or 4500, offered the 6.2 V8. I think it'd be good if they did.
Ford has a 6.2 V8 also, but the lineup right now leaves the 5.4 V8 as base in the E350 (but very rare in a Class C), and 6.8 V10 in nearly every E350 plus all E450's. I think a Class C with either the GM or Ford 6.2 would work out well.
But, I just looked at the Chevy Cutaway specs this week and the gas engine was 6.0 V8.
Got new news?

I only read the add and it stated it was a 6.2 and I know Chevy offers one in their trucks so I didn't think twice. After looking at a few more after reading your response I believe you are correct, they do seem like they use the 6.0 not the 6.2. Thanks for clarifying that.

The Chevy 6.2L is a newer design with any benefit that comes with it and the Ford 6.8L is an older tried and proven reliable power plant. Power wise the newer Chevy design makes makes more HP but the same torque as the Ford 6.8L but it requires 900 more RPM's to acheive it in both cases. Toss up IMO

My answer was predicated on the Chevy 6.2L and is not applicable to the 6.0L as the Ford option would be better IMO.

The GM chassis is only available with the 6.0 not the 6.2L like the light-duty pickups.

If you plan on towing, the E450 has more capacity. It also has more front axle capacity allowing slightly larger bodies.

My advice, choose a floor plan yo like first. This may automatically eliminate the Chevy. Then, evaluate the towing capacity. The Chevy is limited to a 3500# hitch it seems. The newest E450s come with a 7500 or 8,000# hitch, and that capacity is usable since it has a 22,000 GCWR.

Since you're looking for a 32' class C, you're not going to find very many on a Chevrolet cab/chassis. ๐Ÿ˜‰
It looks like Coachmen makes a long 2015 class C on a Chevrolet chassis.

Both chassis are good enough that it really shouldn't be the deciding factor either way. Overall condition of the vehicle and house matter more.
