Cummins 360HP to 400HP

Is it possible to "chip" a 360HP Cummins (2010 installation) to 400HP without detriment to the engine? If so, is there a good reason this might be a bad idea. (Looking at 2010 Phaeton 42QBH-last coach was 400 horses-not happy with 40 less in the corral-or best to look elsewhere.) Thanks. Don

All Phaetons had the ISC with MH3000 transmission.

In 2010 they were 360HP with 1050ft/lbs.

In 2013 (the last year that the ISC was available) they were 380HP and 1050ft/lbs. The torque didn't change and probably wouldn't even if you could up to 400HP.

That being said, I am quite happy with the performance of my 2012 Phaeton. Most of my miles are logged in the mountain and pacific time zones.

Normally, the warranty will cover chipping up on RVs and ambulances.

Thanks to all. Not worth trying to make a change only to introduce potential problems (heat). Would not be happy with less horses and torque. Moving on in my search for a larger bath and a half coach. Maybe a "43" with 425HP. Thanks, Don

Look at the Beaver Patriot Thunder or Marquis if you want HP. Depending on the model and year they will be anywhere from 425 to 600.

Then there is the warranty issue. I saw a owner of a tractor truck that the warranty would not cover the engine because he had chipped the engine to try and get more power.

My 2012 Phaeton has a 380HP ISC with 1050ft/lbs of torque. The newer Phaetons have a 380HP ISL with 1150ft/lbs since the ISC has been discontinued.

Anyway, my point is that 380HP is a standard ISC configuration.

At 360 HP they have gotten about all there is out of the 8.3L ISC. The ISL 400 is a 8.9L... a stroked ISC. After having a 38' DIP with 400 HP, I doubt you'll be happy with a much heavier coach with less torque/HP.

Speak with Cummins and see if there is software update that can be done. I know with Cat we could boost the C-12 from 425 to 455 with just the software. No other issues.

Don,

Which engine do you have.

On many, the torque does NOT go up, so except at high RPM there may be little to be gained.

And, as already posted, more HP means more HEAT for the cooling system to get rid of.
