DEF fuel additive for diesel Sprinter

We just bought a LTV Unity MB with the diesel Mercedes Sprinter. Can anyone tell me how often I would need to top off the DEF--or how long I should expect the tank to last? We are planning a rather lengthy road trip next month...and I would rather not carry the 2+ gallon if I don't need it.

Don't bother carrying it, every place has it. AutoZone, Napa, O'Rileys', Fred Meyers, probably the rest of the Kroger chain, all auto dealers, etc.

Nodwell RN110 out moose hunting. 4-53 Detroit, Clark 5 spd, 40" wide tracks, 10:00x20 tires, 16,000# capacity, 22,000# weight. You know the mud is getting deep when it's coming in the doors.

The vehicle will give you ample warning if you need to reload the DEF. See your MB owners manual for the specifics....don't listen to us. You can get some while on the road if you need it. Lots of diesel vehicles use it now so it's easy to find. Just make sure you know where to put it before you need to find out on a dark night.

Just so we are all on the same page...DEF stands for "Diesel Exhaust Fluid". It is NOT a fuel additive!!!! You put it in your diesel tank and you're gonna have problems...big problems.

On my Winnebago View the DEF tank is good for around 5,000 miles. It also depends how hard the rig is worked. The more you push it the more it uses,

There is no need to carry it with you, if you run low just stop at a truck stop and go to the big truck pumps and fill up there or go to Walmart buy some and fill up in the parking lot.

Ditto, it's no big deal. I would not buy it at truck stop diesel lanes though. Like was stated, get it ant any WalMart as needed, that way it's freshest and you don't have to worry about dirt, water etc on those diesel lane pumps.
MAKE SURE, you put it into the correct receptacle in the engine compartment!!
