I was wondering how many people travel on the 4th of July. I used to go to my favorite lake every fourth. But have gotten older do not water ski any more. Kids are grown and moved out.And quit frankly I don't like fighting crowds on the roadways and waterways on holiday weekends any more. We are staying close to home and will watch fireworks on Galveston Bay.
Happy fourth of July .

No, I skip all the Holidays and go RVing the next day after the Holiday! That's another luxury of being retired!

Sort of a double whammy in our area, Canada Day 1st of July on Friday and 4th of July on Monday so parks on both sides of the border were be packed - did both holidays last years at a NY state park and said not this time. Lots of TT, MHs and fivers on the road this year.

My big trip this year will be after the 8th of September - parks are still open, lots of places to chooses and a lot less people even on the weekends. We'll still go on the occasional weekends as I get every 2nd Friday off (by working extra hours each day).

The older I get the grumpier I get, at least that's what the DW says.
I like my peace and quiet now.

My kids just left for Baltimore/ Washington area. One has 5 boys under 10. That should be an interesting trip for them but I was glad they were here for a few days. An easy pass and knowing the limited access rules for HOV lanes helps a lot up that way.

We are on the road right now, heading back home after a month on the road. But we'll be back tomorrow before the big return rush happens.

We vacationed at Pismo Beach last weekend, figure less meth addicts, weirdo's and idiot's.

Standing on the beach with the grandkids, surrounded by safety cones, having a blast.....Hit by an idiot in a Jeep Cherokee, ran right into me. I was unharmed, he hit and ran.

Nope, we are staying home now.

The last time I did we went from Augusta, Georgia, to Myrtle Beach. By car about 4 hours, so pulling a camper I figured 5 hours. Got off I95 and onto 301 which is main artery into Myrtle Beach. It was 70 miles from I95 to Myrtle Beach State Park, it took 4 hours. With two dogs, bumper to bumper, we vowed never again. We are going in August but by the availability of sites it looks like the week we are going is the week that school starts. Glad to be empty nesters and do not have to juggle vacation travel around school.

Yesterday, Friday, I had to travel from OKC to Branson for a quick one day trip up and back. Mostly driving on I-44 to Springfield, and then HWY 65 to Branson.
I noticed the highways were full of folks pulling boats, Travel Trailers, 5th Wheels, lots of Motorhomes (saw 3 on the side of the road, one had a wrecker hooking up, and the others were waiting). Most of these folks looked like the long weekend crowd.
Just a few observations: a mini-van pulling a pop up that was wagging all over the road, I was driving 75 on the turnpike and he passes me, eating a big ice cream cone. I saw two F-150's pulling at least 30' trailers, both were way down at the hitch and their front was in the air. Don't know how they were steering. Three boats all with flat tires.
Anyway, with all the traffic; it reminded me that's why I never camp or travel on any holiday. I hope they all arrived safely and are enjoying the weekend, but not for me!

As a full-timer, I avoid travel and "busy" campgrounds on major holidays as much as possible. If I get "trapped" in a campground on a holiday, I batten down the hatches and hide.

Traffic and congestion on Cape Cod has gotten so bad lately that we are basically prisoners in our home if we don't leave the Cape on the big three. We were lucky to find a spot at a KOA a half hour from home for the weekend. The DW followed in the car so we can get around and do stuff. Also, we're having neighbors problems at home so getting away from the drama is great.
