What type of electrical connectors are the best when wiring a toad to hook up to a DP. I have the 6 pin connectors now that have the 6 split pins. The pins end up breaking off and I have to replace the whole piece. Must be something better to use for connections?

RoyB....Posted the standard 7 blade plug that automobile manufacturers are using. I use the same thing on ALL of my vehicles, trailers and motor home. This way, no matter what I hook to any of my vehicles, they always match.

I also carry a standard 7 blade to flat four plug in case I have to tow a rental trailer.

After reading RoyB I'd like to agree with him that the connections on 4-way flat and 7-way blade are more standardized than those on 4-way round and 6-way round so you're less likely to have circuiting miss-matches with other rigs as well.

We have used the 7-way trailer cable extension units before for a 5th wheel hook up. Might rig up something like this for your application. Never easy to mess with the wiring. Best to purchase something that has that already done for you. ETRAILER should have different lengths of this extension unit. ETRAILER is an excellent place to look for the trailer wiring products

Converting everything to 7-way units helps with being standard everywhere. Most all of the trailer connections we have used are either 4-way or 7-way.

I realize this is not exactly what you probably will need for hooking up the toad. Just posting to give you some ideas. ETRAILER.com has all kinds of molded wiring ideas.

If you're going to go new on both sides it would be best to use the standard 7-way blade connector. Then you can hook up most anything to your MH and hook your toad to any RV or TV. If your toad just needs a 4-way or 5-way and you would rather use the smaller flat adapter on your toad, you can use a 7-way to 5-way adapter. This also gives you the option to pull cargo trailers that normally have flat connectors. (A 4-way flat and a 5-way flat can connect. The 5th pole is for trailer brakes.)

I would suggest changing out to the 7 pin blade style RV connectors.

There are many but which one you use depends on you. I have use this system since the 60s. I am sure you will get many different suggestions.
