Hello all: my wife and I will be hitting the road to Snowbird in January of 2018 we currently have a Winnebago that's older but would like to find something a little nicer we cannot decide between these two brands but she definitely wants a bath and a half. Could you readers please offer us some advice on the major things to look for in a newer model with tag axle would be great. This is not a solicitation we are just trying to learn of the pros and cons of these models. Thank you very much

So far it appears that the ownership of Entegra by Thor has had no negative effect on Entegra. Thor's history, as shown by their purchase of Airstream, is one of leaving a successful business alone and it appears that is what they are doing with Entegra.

I believe the reason Newmar and some others have put 40' coaches on a tag axle chassis is due to the weight of the coach. These newer coaches keep getting heavier due to full wall slides, all tile floors and other things to make them mimic a stick house. Many 40' non tag DP's are overweight if not nearly so when fully loaded.

Nevertheless, after owning both tag and non-tag, the driving experience with the tag is far superior.

That's just sad. Newmar it is for our next coach.

Bruce, some of the upper end producers had shorter tag units (I'm talking diesel only).

Prevost Car made 40 ft. coaches for years that had tag axles.

Not as much any more. Newmar is even using tags on their 40'ers now.

40 feet is where it 'teeters'... Monaco made a 39 ft. tag axle coach (in the day).

Diesel? I know a lot of old gassers had aftermarket add on tags. I was under the impression 40' diesels w/true tags are pretty new.

I know when we were shopping I can't think of a 40'er with a tag.
There are 24 hours in every day - it all depends on how you choose to use them.

Nope. If you live in a parked coach for the majority of the time then a minor struggle while driving is not a reason to pay the added expense for a tag axle coach. I own a tag axle coach but I drive over 20,000 miles per year and that is great! If I only traveled from point A to point B and then returned to point A I would have wasted a bunch of money on a chassis I will never need and will never get a return from.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Do you plan to snowbird in just one location or will you be moving frequently? The reason I ask is that a tag axle coach (much more money) is a great advantage to those to plan to do lots and lots of driving over the course of the year but no advantage to those planning to move from point A to point B only a few times per year.

No advantage? Even if the coach is rarely driven, is a tag axle not an advantage during those drives?

Toured both plants and they are very similar! Wall construction being hung vs laminated and betterinsulation in the rear cap and front providing easy heating and cooling. We have friends with a tiffin that the front became very hot and the ac had a harder time.
We were going to trade up to a Newmar or Entegra but decided at our price point, nothing equals the quality in our older Beaver .these two came the closest. Tiffin was on our list also but we cut it midway in our search. If we decide to move forward again in a year or two we will look them again ... probably a 2-3 year old one. Good luck in your snowbird adventure ! And search.

Both are great coaches...the 2 yr warranty and factory PDI at end of warranty plus their customer service made me side with Entegra..At the time the only thing close was a 4369 and the 2016 had a weight issue with the front axle...The 4018 only had 2 AC units and I wanted 3...When you are ready, I was treated well by NIRVC in Georgia who catered to my wife's needs and they made sure certain things were done to her specs (made life easier)...Also I heard they are getting Tiffin in there and yes I did look at a Tiffin and loved it but that dealer (in NC) would only give me 10% off and it had a rear radiator..I wanted a side radiator and a Spartan chassis which Newmar does at no charge now..I wanted that side radiator, a bath and a half and the heated floor along with being able to put out slides before leveling and to bring them in last. (that's a deal breaker with the DW)...so we went with Entegra...
