DH and I are (happily) spending the early months of 2014 around Orlando...and we love to play golf. Any research I've done about how much a round of golf costs has been discouraging. Anybody know where we can play golf without having to mortgage the house?
Suggestions much appreciated.

You're just going to have to drive a little to get away from the tourist areas and the crowds who are on vacation and aren't that concerned about the $$$. Do some research on the area courses and you might be surprised at the bargains available in the small towns surrounding Orlando.
Enjoy

Clerbrook RV and golf resort, rt 27 north between Clermont and Leesburg. That would be about 20 miles N of 192 West. Many local courses around.

Disclaimer - I am not a golfer. LOL Many of the Florida counties seem to have golf courses, including the one where we live, Martin. We are a couple of hours south of Orlando, but I am sure other public courses exist closer to Orlando.

Here is the last posted fee schedule for Martin County Golf and Country Club. From what I understand it is the most used course in this area. For walking, 9 holes, the fee is just under $20 for non-residents of the county. Carts seem to add about $10 a round to the cost.

At the north Florida golf resort where he lives, I don't think my brother has to pay any fees per round, but the membership dues are in the tens of thousands per year, and it cost him (10 years ago) more than a million to buy the house and club membership. Reflects the high value of land in populated area of Florida.

On the oter hand, I used to pay $6 to play 18 holes on base, during my military service in Orlando. But considering that my salary was $400, and the price of a new car was still under $3000, I guess that $40-50 for a round of golf today is not all that expensive. Don't think you will be turning back inflation, the dollar just isn't what it used to be.

We winter at Sun N Fun resort in Sarasota. I know it's not Orlando but for future reference we have a league of about 60 guys that plays twice a week at a great course with a special price around 35.00. Condider it for the future.

We spent last January (2013) at Elite RV Resot, which is south od Clermont. We played many rounds at http://www.legendsgolforlando.com/ It was very reasonable for Jan. and got progressivly higher in Feb. and March. It is a beautiful course.

My full timer friend plays and says the best bang for the buck, is to stay in an RV Golf Resort and has done so during the winter months near the space center and Titusville. If you're interested in doing that, PM me and I'll run down the name of the place. I do remember it looking pretty nice.

There are plenty of cheap golfing places in Orlando. in the $25 to $45 range. Call around. Try Eagle Creek, Stoney Brook or Eastwood to name a few. Also Royal St. Cloud.

X2 on Golf Now. We use it everywhere we travel and it`s where find the best deals. To be clear we have not used it yet in Florida but will this winter in the Arcadia area.I have been checking and if you play at certain times it can be reasonable.

Don't know much about what it costs to play golf in the Orlando area other than I have been told that it is expensive. There are places to play in Florida that are very inexpensive and the courses are great. The area around Lakeland, Bartow, Wauchula, Avon Park and Sebring has several courses that you can play in the $30 range. I know this isn't Orlando but if you go a little south of there you will find good golf courses with reasonable prices.

Putt Putt. 🙂
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

Inexpensive and Florida Golf do not mix. You have to pay for the sunshine somehow.
