Front Seat That Swivels Upgrade W/Pic

I really missed having seats that swiveled like I had on my old
Class A.Now that I have a smaller Class C.
So I looked around and found only one place that sold an aftermarket swivel and found out that another RV.NET poster had done it,thanks scroller95969, so I ordered it and installed it.

This is how it went.

First you remove the seat to expose the seat base.

Then you install the Swivel,This thing is not light. It weighs over 34 lbs.It is made out of 1/8in steel and very sturdy. One note here, some of the holes don't line up and have to be reamed out a little to fit.
I suggest that this is done on a bench and is test fitted before install it is too heavy to be messing with any other way.

The Bolts that are supplied are Grade 8 with NyLock nuts, this thing is not going any where!!
Also in the in the pic you will notice the lift bar that lets you pull up to swivel the seat.It came straight,it is about 5 inches long
and I thought it may pose a hazard so I heated it and bent it 90 degrees so it will tuck under the seat somewhat.
I then installed the seat and this is how it looked before.

And after, giving me more room,an extra seat, and opening up the whole thing.

This is it turned and pushed against the dash with the back upright.

This is it in the full recline position,it may be adjusted to any angle you want of course. Just move it on the slider as you would when it is in it's forward position.

It works both ways for which ever way you want and still swivels to give you as much room that you want.
This mod was for the stock seats but they also make ones for after market and for different brands of RV chassis. It should be noted that it also raised the seat about 2 inches.
I bought this at Shop 4 Seats They also sell swivel bases for other seats
They are made to order, they are not off the shelf items. So if you order make sure that all your measurements are right. They are quite helpful on the phone. It takes about 3 weeks to get them, they are about 15 miles from me so I had them on will call and saved the shipping.
It worked out very well and the seat swivels just great. It is easier to open the door and do the swivel and it misses the dog house and everything just fine.

If you do this Mod, post a picture of yours, so we all can see!

Thank you for the pictures and the link, I have been wanting to do this ever since we bought our rig.:)
How does the off set work out for you when your seat is facing forward and then rearward?

While it is facing forward the only off set is that it raise the seat about 2 inches and maybe 1/2 inch forward not enough to notice.

When it is swiveled rearward it will slide all the way back so the back is almost vertical or when pulled rearward it will recline quite nicely until it hits the dash. It makes a nice recliner.

I will try to post some pictures later of a side view, that may help you.

It is a nice mod and I am very happy with it and I hope you will be too.
If you have any other questions just PM me and I will be happy to help you out.

It would be nice, for your Ford friend to post the specifics on his mod, just to help us Ford owners figure out how he did it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

After talking to my friend I found out that it came that way from the MFG.

It is the same Base that is pictured in the link that I have listed for the Ford. Just pick the one that will fit your year and your seat.
If that fails just call them they are very helpful.

After it is installed it takes a little bit of manurering to get it to turn all the way around,it just dosn't spin around like a merry go round.

To spin it,the easyist way is to unlatch it and spin it half way, then open the door a bit and slide it back a bit so it clears the dog house then turn it the rest of the way. It may take a few times doing it to get a rhythem down but after that it is simple.
And you have a nice addition.

Op here again. I just returned from 2 camping trips and this was the first time I had a chance to really use the seat.

It worked out great, the extra room in the cab was very nice and when we had an extra person or two it was nice for all of us to be able to sit and talk.

The heigth differance was negliable and was a nice place to sit and put on your shoes because you were sitting a little closer to the floor and didn't have to bend over as far,I found that a big plus.

Also it was nice to be able to recline and stretch out your legs and read.

All in all I am really happy with this Mod. Our friends have a Ford and they love theirs too, that is where I got the idea to start looking for this Mod for mine.

There just might be a model that is made that way for what you want.I would call and ask.
My swivel Raised the seat about 2in when finished, and I have a 4in step up in my Tioga 26Q so it was just right.

I called them when I ordered mine and got first hand what the demensions were, they are very helpful. The people that I talked to were
actually at the factory. They went and measured it all for me.

They made mine in their factory so I would guess that you could have them make it any heigth you want. It would be worth the call.

As I said I went to the factory and got mine and got to see how it was made. Nice people.

Note that if your Ford E350/E450 based Class C has a STEP UP into the coach area:

- When you swivel the passenger seat around your legs will be more straight out and you will be lower than the other coach seats for talking, eating, watching TV, etc., with them.

- When you swivel the passemger seat around it could be VERY UNCOMFORTABLE getting into/out of this swiveled seat with it being so low relative to the main coach's floor.

I wish you could get these swivel mechanisms with an option that also has adjustable height so the seat could be raised 3-5 inches when swiveled ... for the Class C situations where the coach floor is higher than the cab floor.

We've had swivel passenger seats in our E350 & E450. It's a bit of a bother to get it around but it works OK

Or a 450, i'm not sure mine has enough room to swivel. I haven't actually measured it, but it LOOKS like it will hit the dog house & the door.

Was there enough slack in the seat wiring harness so the seat could turn or did you have to extend it?

My seat is on the passenger side and it didnot come with a wired airbag sensor
in the seat, but there are wires coming out of the floor as shown in pic. #1.
If you have one I would think that they could be extended, there is a hole in the middle of the swivel as shown in pic #2 that it can be passed up thru, this swivel raises the seat about 1 3/4 inches. This one is for a Chevy and was made just for that application.

In my prevous post there is a link to Ford and Sprinter seat swivels.
