fuel filler hose cost??

Took Mh to local RV shop to get the fuel filler hose replaced. F53 Chassis, 1997 Dolphin. Charge for 4 feet of hose was $147.00. That is 36.75 a foot. Near as I can tell from looking on line just now that is about twice the cost it should have been. Don't know what the ID was but even at 2 inches that still seems high. Suspect the ID is about 1 and 1/2 inches at the most. Any other opinions or actual cost experience? Thanks

As per your post, this is what they charged for the hose. How much was the labor charge in addition to the cost of the hose, or did you replace it yourself?

Spartan replaced my driver's side fuel fill hose (approx. 2", I.D.) parts $77.10, don't recall the labor charge, but that could add more @$100 hr.

You said to get it 'replaced'. You realize they charge around $100 (+-) per hour with a minimum of one hour in most shops don't you. Not saying that is right for customer service, just the way most do business.

Its a repair center. Dealers and repair centers make their living on parts, not labor. That is pretty much standard procedure, which is why I do all my own repairs. High priced parts seem to be more palatable than high priced labor, because the parts are tangible. Sure they stretch it as much as they can get away with, but that's pretty much universal.

Look at it this way: How many times does that hose get replaced? Once? Maybe?

Check out the price for the lower radiator hose for a V-10. As I remember, it was around $165.

They gotcha' .

Paid the same amount at Carquest. Needed it to plumb a gas tank for my generator on the fiver.

That sounds really out of line to me. But I have nothing but my gut hunch to back up my theory.
I paid $44.00 for a 14" "formed" air hose from my intake manifold to the air compressor from Cummin's. I thought that was out of line but it is a dealer item.
On edit: If the hose is made of Viton it could very well be that expensive. Viton is used on petroleum products for hoses and gaskets. Had to use it on drycleaners because the Percloretheyne would disolve most any other fabric hoses.

Stuff is usually about 1.25 per foot at the auto parts store

I had mine replaced 2 years ago in Leesburg, fl. I forgot the price of the hose, but it was quite expensive. 1 1/2" fuel line is not cheap, and the prices are always cheaper online.:B
