Fuel Mileage

Just a quick question for anyone running a Detroit Diesel 60 series 500 h.p. engine. Any ideas on fuel economy. Just a general reference. I am looking at a Monaco with this engine and I am wondering what my mileage might be? Thanks in advance.

My RTS bus gets better than that and it has an 8V71 leaktroit. I would think that modern engine would get better

A friend of mine has an 04' Signature with that setup. He claims around 6.5 average mpg. If the coach you are looking at doesn't weight more than 35,000 lbs, you may get a little better milage. Good luck.

I have a Series 60 in our coach. I get an average of 6.25 mpg at a speed of 62mph. My coach weighs 46,000 pounds and I tow a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Thanks. I have a 40 with 400 hp Cummins now. It will average 8 mpg. The 6 to 6.5 number is around what I expected. This is a 40 with tag.

I'm guessing anywhere from 5-12 MPG, depending on if you are towing and if the road is flat, or if you are in the mountains out West. Naturally headwinds will also affect your mileage. The best thing to expect from ANY MH is poor mileage that will shift from very very poor, to just poor, depending on the road conditions. If you plan on using the coach a lot, in all kinds of conditions and on all kinds of road, you may be able to use 8-9 as an "average" that will also vary depending on your cruising speed.
