Generator AC question

The front AC unit does not turn on while running the generator. The rear AC unit does work on the generator. The front AC unit works hooked up to shore power. So there has to be some link between the front AC and the generator that isn't correct. Any ideas???

Thanks in advance.

Yep, there's a breaker on the generator and it tripped. Thanks for figuring it out.

Sounds like you Genset can't handle both....

Ours was the breaker located on the top of the generator itself. The front AC would click but not actually start. Flipped the breaker back and never had another problem with it so far.

Rear AC worked fine. Would appear each AC has it's own breaker.

Sorry, 50 amp service. As far as we could tell, everything else had power on generator. Will go out tomorrow and recheck as well as breaker. Hopefully it's just a breaker and we can reset. Will let everyone know if that's the answer. Thanks for all the responses.

Your generator has two 120vac outputs. One 30amp output and one 20amp output. It sounds like the 20amp circuit breaker is tripped on the generator. The 20amp output is the one that feeds the front air conditioner.

The breakers may be located on the end of the generator and a little difficult to see. Flip them OFF and back ON and your front air unit will probably magically start to work again.

gtp,you really need to provide additional coach information. Otherwise we all are guessing

You did not specify whether you have 30 or 50 amp service. 50 amp has two hot legs and most likely one AC on each leg. It sounds like your transfer switch or your generator has a problem with the leg that supplies the front unit. Is there anything else in the coach that is not working? I would expect everything on that leg to be dead.

Does your coach have a selector switch that determines which AC can be used when on shore power? That's fairly common in 30 amp coaches. On my Coachmen for instance, the switch selects the front or rear AC on shore power, and allows both AC's to run if it's placed in the "Rear" position when our 7KW generator is running. Some coaches want the switch in the "Front" position though, to run both on the generator. Your symptoms do sound like the switch might be in the wrong position for each power mode. What make/model/year coach do you have?

My coach has a switch that says "front" "back" and it is a double throw switch I can't have both on with generator there is another switch I think that will allow both to run.

We just turned on the front one. When it didn't work, turned it off and tried the back. That one worked. Never had a problem before. Of course the one we use the most while traveling is the the front, so really want to solve the mystery.

How big is the generator? Its entirely possible its not capable of running both and other things at the same time so its not wired to be powered that way.

Just a guess from a layman.
