^^ Winfield is an hour from Tuscaloosa, much further from Auburn. Owner must be a Bama fan!

I think you nailed it...as for them not choosing BC:

Alabama's "right to work" and other labor laws keep wages and benefits down to subsistence levels, if that. Attractive to employers.

Great West is looking for forty workers in Winfield, according to this posting by an Alabama "jobs center". It'd be interesting to know what they're offering, wages-wise!

The obvious reason GWV is moving to Alabama is because the business enviroment and perks there for their business are BETTER. Winnipeg, where I was born, is always cold. Sure it was the coldest winter in 75 years(7 ft deep freezing), but they could have moved to Vancouver, BC which has good business tax benefits and virtually no snow and little freezing. The move is good for Alabama which also makes some BMWs(I have a 5 series).
