i have spent the last two days replacing a new motor on a single step electric kwickee step, the motor works fine using a battery in both directions but when it is wired to the existing wiring it will only retract, i used a dremel tool with a brass wire brush on every point of ground that the control box uses but still cant get the step to extend when the door is opened. my grounds are showing so much silver i am surprised that ihavent gotten a call from the us mint. i am leaning tordsit being a control box issue as i have power only on the return side and not on the forard side. anyone care to give it a thought as to what to check next? i really dont want to spend another 100.00 dollars for a control box if its something i am overlooking.
thanks in advance wildbill0013.

what was the reason for changing the motor
did the old one do the same thing
if yes, then it is a switch problem or controller problem ?
IF no, the motor is wired backwards

shut off power, pull fuse , disconnect battery
try swapping the two power wires to the motor

this assumes all you did was install a new motor, did not change controller
the motor is wired backward
I can explain it to you.
But I Can Not understand it for you !

look at page 37 to test

Page 37 has the procedure for testing the steps this will tell you if you have a bad switch or if it is the controller.

4 way connector pin out is further down.

hope this helps.

1. MORE info needed. year/model of RV
2. It only retracts? Does it NEVER extend? Or does it retract when the door is opened and extends when the door is closed? Doug

It sounds like the control box is only sending the +/- signal, and not the -/+ signal. When I worked in the trade, that kind of a problem was often diagnosed as a switch not making. In order for the power to reverse, the forward limit switch must make (or something else like a safety switch makes). I would examine the electrical print, and try to determine how the direction switches, then either jumper out, or open the faulty trigger to check the operation.
