Holiday Rambler sani con question?

My brother in law just purchased a 2012 Holiday Rambler Ambassador. It has a sani con system that apparently came from the factory. There is a built in switch labeled for it and it is covered in the owner's manual.

We cannot figure out how to connect it. The discharge pipe from the black tank is pointing straight down and is about 3 inches from the bottom of the bay and opening in the floor. There is no way to hook up the sani con hose to it without taking it out the door of the bay, running it under the bay and putting it up through the hole in the bay floor to hook it to the discharge tube. The sani con pump is mounted to the floor of the bay. There is not room to put an elbow on the discharge.

This would make the sani con pump higher than the hose feeding into it. For it to work properly it needs to be gravity feed.

Does anyone have a mh set up like this and found a way to use it?

My setup is almost identical. The entire Y section that connects the two tanks rotates up towards the front. It requires some muscle and effort but it does move. If you can't loosen up the screws where the pipe joins the drain valves and try again.

Dennis, that rocks!!!

Here's mine.

Thay Y does indeed rotate, even if you have to unbolt it to do it.
Then just attach the sanicon hose.

But check and rebuild that pump, the PO most likely disconnected it for a reason.

I've always wondered how I'd bypass the sanicon on mine, cause the exit port is right below the Y, no way a 90 on the end would hit it. But rotating the Y 90 degrees sure would.

Are you sure that the entire Y doesn't rotate up? Mine does.

I looked at the set up. The discharge cannot be rotated. See attached pictures. The grey tank ties into the black tank discharge and nothing can be moved.[img] [/img]

Our's (08 knight, identical to your ambassador, kinda like chevelle / lemans?) the outlet sticks straight out.

Your PO's disconnected the sanicon and added the 90 in place of the factory straight adapter.

I highly recommend using the sanicon, I love mine, but...
It probably needs to be rebuilt, there is a rubber impellor inside that wears out. There is also a small metal chopper blade that clogs with hair. Our works way better after I cleaned the hair out of the chopper and put in a new impellor. The old impellor was just gone, nuttin but the shaft left, no blades at all. It still worked but not very well.

The original hose that connected the sanicon to the tank outlet was "flex-hard", much stiffer than a stinky slinky. With the rebuilt pump, mine will pull enough vacuum to partially collapse this hose if I close the outlet blade valves for a second.

Recommend you order from thetford part #'s:
70408 Clear straight adapter w/ o rings
70418 14" inlet hose
70475 impellor with gaskets

here is the thetford parts list http://www.thetford.com/HOME/PARTS/Accessories/SaniConModel6258001512Parts/tabid/792/Default.aspx

I don't post pictures here cause the site doesn't host them and it's a hassle, but if you pm me your email address, I will email you a pic of the setup in my knight.

While my Sani Con like others has it's features the big negative for me is the length of time it takes to empty the tanks. Plus running dry will damage the unit so you have to wait for each tank to empty. The discharge rate is 10GMP at most so the time is adding up. OK when you have a dump at your site but not OK for a CG dump with others waiting. Generally a PITA.

Plus when you disconnect the big hose you might have a mess. I have a twist on valve that remains attached to the Sani Con hose which helps.

It looked like the discharge was glued in place. I will check it later and let you know.

Thanks for the replies.

X4 - just grab the discharge that is pointed straight down (so that they could use a "regular" discharge hose) and twist it towards you until it points straight towards the door of the compartment. Then you should be able to connect the macerator hose to it, and then use the smaller macerator discharge hose to connect to the dump station or sewer connection at the camp-site.

Sounds like the previous owner disconnected the macerator and used the stinky slinky.

You'll probably have to loosen the 3" pipe and rotate it upward. There is a 3" flex line that runs from the sewer opening to the macerator pump. From there a 1" hose comes off the pump to discharge the waste into the sewer system. It does NOT rely on gravity.

If you need a picture let me know and I'll take one tomorrow and post it for you...Dennis

On edit: Here's a video that might answer your question. Let me know if you need the picture after viewing the video....D
