Honda Fit Tires

A friend hs a 36 ft bounder and tows a Honda Fit. They have had the Fit for about a year and bought the 2012 Fit used with 800 miles on it.
On the Fit, they have had to replace 5 tires in a year. they went out to AZ and CA for the winter. Tire places say low profiel tires are very sensitive.

any one else experience tire problems with towing a Honda Fit.

thanks.

I have towed my 2009 Honda Fit Sport over 27,000 miles and driven over 65,000. On my 3rd set of tires. Car came with Bridgestone tires but were hard to find so replaced with Dunlap's with low wear ratings. Lost 2 tires to pot holes. Fronts wear faster so important to rotate every 6k miles. Love the car! Good luck.

I'm also wondering if someone has a lead foot. Our FIT will spin the tires if you want to.

Our 2012 Fit has 20,000 driven miles + 15,000 towed miles. Still on the original tires. Most of these tire problems that have been described sound like under-inflation to me. The tires on the Fit Sport should be inflated to at least 34 psi cold. Lower and you are going to have poor mileage and wear.

We have an 08 Fit Sport and 47000 miles. We're on our 3rd set because the tires were loud, cupping, and giving a very rough ride. I'd guess we've towed it another 15,000. The current set of Yokohama's are working great. We had both the front and rear aligned, plus had to change out a RF wheel bearing. Can't say it's great mileage compared to newer large cars either. Probably 30 average, or lower. My wife loves the car so guess we'll keep towing.

I don't know why the tire shops are saying "design flaw". Obviously a lot of us here have Fits and don't have that problem.

Might just be two bad shops in a row. A lot of them just want to run cars in and back out as fast as possible and not spend any time on unusual problems. Need to find a shop that cares.

they have taken it to 2 mtire shops and they both say design flaw. i am camped next to a Fit Sport and they have not had problems with their tires. It could be operator error.

Another person suggested getting in touch Honda, a consumer advocate, who will help consumers.

Thanks Cindy, I recommend that your friend take that car to a trusted tire shop (What I mean by that is a shop that is interested in helping this person to solve the problem). A tire expert will no what's wrong!

I'd get the alignment on the Fit checked.

I have a 2010 Fit Sport with 93,000 miles on it. Just got the 3rd set of tires for it. I'm averaging 45,000 miles per set, rotating the tires every 10k. I've towed it on a dolly a couple of times, but didn't notice anything special about tire wear.

I do agree with watching the driving technique on the RV as the large overhangs really exaggerate movement of the toad. Still, an alignment on the Fit would be the very first thing I would try. Take it to a reputable shop, not necessarily a chain store unless they know that chain store does really good work.

I do not know what they are doing either. I have a 2012 Fit sport
with 38,000 driven miles in 16 months...it is not towed, i just use it for work and drive a lot. We tow a CRV behind our Vista 27N. i got the Fit for work because of its good mileage and we have good luck with Hondas.

I recommended the Fit to them for towing because I know they could not afford the CRV.

They are really p-oed about the fit and the tires, and I told them to get a different car...they cannot afford it.

Their 2012 Fit sport is of course like ours...we do not tow it though.

Maybe they should call Honda.

From Sport Fit owner towed behind Class A:
"13000 miles total. Don't know the split, but we have had tire problems when not towing as well. Every time we hit a bump we expect to get a new tire. It is a bad design. I believe the tire guys."

For extra data points, we have a 09 FIT Sport we don't tow we bought new. We got about 40K on the factory tires, which we were told was very good. The Sport comes with low profile, soft tires.

Wifey doesn't autocross.

We have towed several Hondas and I scrubbed the tires off our new 04 Element in 15K miles before I learned the "Dont crank your RV wheels standing still rule". The fronts will always wear off first, but you need to rotate and move forward before turning.
