How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

I'm new here, and curious.

How many of us in Class C own Dodge B300 incomplete
cab/chassis based RV's? I know two others- Steve aka
Ripsaw, with a 1977 Brougham, and Leroy aka 1978_Dodge
_Delta who owns a 440V8 powered sharp looking 1978
Delta RV. I would like to ask, and offer, help, idea
swapping and comparing notes on our particular RV's
which are based on the Dodge B300 van chassis.

Yeah, I know. These are low tech, podgy old RV's that
would be considered "entry level" for folks like me,
but I have a deep and abiding respect for the quality
of these old "monsters of the open road". And anyone
wanting to pick brains, joke about, share notes or just
brag about our old A- Dodge-io's are certainly welcome
to PM or email me. Between all of us we can form a real
good support group, and help each other with problems
we know we'll encounter with an older vehicle.

Sure. I'd love a new RV. But I'd rather have an older
one already paid for, and a lotta great memories. Call
me frugal, an old hippie, or whatever you will. I'm proud
of my old land yacht.

Mopar Madness Manifest in the flesh,

Mark aka White Knight

P.S. Mine's a '72. Is there an older one out there someone's
motorvating in? Maybe even a Travco? W/K

I should be getting my engine back this week. Hopefully the old girl will be rolling again real soon.

It rained all weekend, so it was a good test for the vent replacement I did last week. Dry as a bone, happiness.

Someday I think I would like to add a fan vent over the cab over. Then I can have one suck air in, and one suck air out creating a nice breeze all the way through the camper.

Too many other things to fix first.

Still waiting on those pics. ๐Ÿ™‚

My rig does not, nor never had AC in the roof. However, it IS wired for it already. Look closely around your vent area to see if you have a cover plate that has a terminated 120v wiring in it...
She ain't purdy, but at least she's slow!

Leean's right, most vent fans are low current 12v devices so sticking high current at 110v wouldn't work, not for long anyway..:E

Weren't you thinking of using the vent wire as a pull thruogh for heavier cable though? On my old Dodge the cabling followed a very tortuous route through lots of 90o bends and very small holes - some lined with narrow steel pipe with sharp edges so I really don't think that it would work.

If you are lucky they may have run a 110 cable to the vent if AC was an option on your vehicle - might be the other side of the vent frame though... Otherwise depending on where your outlets are there may be a power cable crossing the roof nearby that you could tap into.

I would assume, though don't assume it'll be $8 ๐Ÿ˜‰

Like I said, I got that at Harbor Freight. You can find similar ones at autoparts places.

No, no special gauge. You do need a gauge that will handle a truck - mostly because it's longer and has a dual-sided chuck on the end.

I have this from Harbor Freight as it allows me to fill all the tires and check the pressure at the same time ($8):

Thanks Leeann, I am sure an RV dealership would have that?

You need to check the specs on the AC unit that you have - they will have specific wire sizes by length of run listed in the install manual. I would imagine that the vent wire is insufficient for the AC unit, but it isn't impossible that they ran oversized wire (just unlikely).

Do you have to use a special tire gauge to check the pressure on the inside dually tires? If so, any suggestions? Thanks,

Search under Leeann's name for A/C replacement.
You will find the A/C needs a much larger hole than 14x14.
My Travco was 23" and Leeann's old A/C just fit.

Looks good, too.

But it came out of a 14x14 hole, so I'm a bit confused as to what you did....you did take the top part off the bottom part (control section), put the top part in from above and the bottom part up from below, then bolt them together, right? :h

Yeah, but I had to use part of the Travco's original base.
Which is how come it leaked. Past tense, there.

And I was thinking of the outside, duh, when I said 23".
Hole is 16x16, just like the vent.

The unit I have fits in a 14" x 14"... Make sure that your roof is sound though coz they weigh a lot. Would spoil your meal if the AC fell through while you were cooking....
