How to get bleach into fresh water tank

I don't have a place on fresh water tank to just pour in bleach for sanitizing. How do you get the bleach into the tank?

First answer is close.. Fill tank half full, Drain hose (blow it out or walk it out) Pour bleach into hose, Hook back up and continue filling tank.

Use a hand pump (Winterizing pump) to pump in the bleach/water solution (Pump at least a gallon total, bleach and water combined, 2 or 3 if you can).

There are two methods.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

Works well have done it to freshen water tank in spring.

x3 (or is it 5 or 7)
I am careful when filling. My gravity fill is my over flow. About the only thing I do not like about the Tiffin design. I do not want a high concentration of bleach running out on the paint.

Thank you for asking this question. I also have no gravity fill and have wondered how to do this, too. : )

As stated, Just put the bleach into your empty hose before connecting it to the RV. This will also sanitize your hose.

Actually unless you leave the chlorine in the hose for long period of time...it does NOT sanitize the hose. Just like the tank, the chlorine has to set for a while to do its job.

Typically, when you roll up a hose, you automatically drain the water out of it....so there should not be long standing water in your hose and therefore should not have any nasties in it especially if your connect both ends together when not in use.

I put a faucet with a short (12โ€) hose on a square plastic 5 gallon bucket. I then fill the bucket about 3/4 full of water, add the bleach, set it on a ladder with the hose in the fresh water intake port and turn the valve on. When it drains dry I fill the tank with fresh water.

Most fresh water inlets (hose connector) have a pressure valve in them that requires more pressure than the above post will provide. Gravity fed will not work on this type of inlet.

I too, do not have any gravity inlet port on my fresh water tank and use the "fill up the hose with chlorine" method. I do let it set in the hose for a 1/2 hour or so.....not sure if it does any good or not.

I think OP was looking for a less expensive option ๐Ÿ˜‰

Nice that you're pleased with your new rig, though. Feel free to start a new thread telling us about it. It's done all the time. Younget to "show off" your new rig in a good way and we enjoy seeing all the pics and reading about the cool things in other rigs ๐Ÿ™‚

Wear rubber gloves while filling the hose. Bleach all over your hands is not a good thing.

When I had a rig with no "gravity" fill, I used the "bleach in the hose" method. Simple and quick.

I was not aware there was some RV units that has fresh water tanks with no external manual fill ports.

As much camping I do off the power grid I would be modifying something to be able to manual fill my fresh water tank using a 5-gallon "Jerry-Can" style of container.

I guess you could cut the end off of a short water hose and clamp a funnel on it.

If you can smell bleach you used too much- TO DRINK
Taste like poo. Gives you the runs.
But that's how much it takes to kill nasties. You just leave it in tanks/lines for 4 hours or so then drain tank refill and flush lines till smell is gone.

Just like a swimming pool in the spring. You need to shock the system to kill the nasties. The amount of chlorene in city water systems is so low it is really useless. Who ever said if you can smell chlorene you used too much is dead wrong. Dont believe me, do a web search for sanitizing a water tank, hot tub or swimming pool.

Municipal water supply already is chlorinated....I hadn't thought of that. That is such a no brainer....THANKS, I should have thought of that. Also I do have an external filter....another GREAT suggestion.
